Gravatar Terry Fox -

Gravatar Most famous Canadian is Pamela Anderson. However she might not be eligible since she isn't at least 50% Canadian content anymore.

Gravatar Peter Jennings and JD (John) Roberts.

Gravatar PS for Foreign Friends: Johnny Macdonald was the alcoholic founder of Macdonald's Canada. They served in haggis burgers. Of course, it was eventually absorbed by McDonald's from the US and completely changed. Just one more reason why Canadians hate Americans.

Gravatar Probably the most famous Canadian _by recognition_, that is, recognizable as a Canadian, and both by face and by name, is Dudley Do-Right.

I'm a Minnesotan, so 2 points.

Gravatar ok this takes the cake .. REASONS to LUV Canada

Gravatar My vote is for Tommy Douglas - not because of Medicare or the CCF or NDP but because my friend's mother Margaret told him her dance card was full at some country barn dance many years ago.

My friend still laments that he might have been like Keifer Sutherland had his Mom bopped with the great TD instead of marrying Leo. Then again, Shirley Douglas might deserve a nod as a great Canadian, HMmmm.

Score one extra point as I'm from Vancouver and everyone knows how flaky we of the Wet Coast are.

Gravatar I like your story. In him too. During highschool I went to an interesting debate about some Canadian issues. Tommy D was there, Peter Reigenstreiff (a columnist)and I can't remember the other person. They were all really good and afterwards I got to ask Tommy how we could get people like this to come and speak at our highschool. He had that typical fierce smile on his face and told me it was personal contacts. I like him but I wouldn't vote for him because I hate the way he was presented by George Alphabets. (cont'd)

Gravatar The presentation had one great scene tho. Shirley had been arrested for supplying guns to the Black Panthers and he went down to Los Angeles to help her. One of the many reporters confronted him with the accusation "Don't you feel bad that your daughter didn't even come to the airport to meet you." Without missing a beat and without losing his smile he counter-attacked "How do you know she isn't here?" And a minute later she walked up and hugged him. And he said "Hello dear. This man said that you weren't coming to meet me."

The presentation of JohnAMacdonald by some English woman was much better. He had a daughter with birth defects and he read to her and made sure she went to all the children's parties and had a special landing built on the stairway so she could sit in her wheelchair and peep in on all the dignitaries who came to visit him at home.

Gravatar easy. two words: Tim Horton.

Mike
London, Ontario, Canada.

Gravatar Mike W. Very good! But that would be an intensity vote. Known WELL by ALL Canadians but not beyond our borders. (Actually, I didn't know Tim's existed beyond Ontario but think I'll head over there now for a hot one).
