You look fabulous, as usual! Brooke is gorgeous - love her in Lilly! You guys are the same height! |
I think it's great that you are promoting an interesting cause on your website, but I keep remembering that you drive a SUV, one of the worst cars for the environment. How do you reconcile the two? |
The SUV is probably a must where Mel lives in Connecticut. I live in NYC and the Catskills, and while I'd never dream of driving an SUV in the city, I wouldn't be able to get around the Catskills in the winter without it. Good for you with the solar lights. We are looking into installing some panels too! |
james is right. when it snows in CT i'm unable to get out of my driveway without 4 wheel drive. |
The programmable thermostats and solar lights are much more than most people do. That's such a great green start, and I hope your readers will follow your lead. |
Great to see you doing your part for the environment and raising awareness. And fun that you got to meet Brooke - in Lilly! |
I'll bet half the people at the benefit drove home in SUVs. We all do what we can but no one is perfect. |
Thanks for the report, Mel! Actually, I think Brooke Shields is a couple of inches taller than Mel -- her bio info indicates she's 6'. I've always kind of wished that she'd give me her hand-me-down wardrobe. I love that dress she's wearing. |
Question... what brand of solar lights are you using outside of your CT house? Husband and I want to use solar - but can't find any that have a brightness that we like. Some are SO dim. |
Glad that you are spreading the "green awareness" |
I have the same car as yours and need it on Boston's North Shore to get out of my driveway in the winters. You can do a lot but not everything. |
You're very attractive but those glasses are too harsh for you. A wire frame would work better or smaller frames in maybe a light tortoise. |
It is completely a personal choice what car one drives. But, I also live in New Canaan and drive an Audi FWD and my husband drives a hybrid Lexus FWD. There isn't an essential need for an SUV in NC. |
Kudos for supporting renewable energy! |
ATTENTION PEOPLE WHO DO NOT KNOW MEL IN REAL LIFE: you cannot and would not want to attempt getting into her driveway without a 4-wheel drive car when it snows or is icy. it would be impossible! she has an audi and it will not get into the driveway in bad weather. until you have been to her home and tried it yourself skip the judgments. |
I don't know Mel in real life, but I know my real life in New Canaan, and you better believe you need a sturdy SUV up here. We have one that is a Hybrid and one that is not, because neither one of us wants to battle the winter without one ( we tried). Mel, your necklace is gorgeous, who makes it? |
When I think about how long it's been since we started re-cycling can's and bottles...and not really understanding what the benefits, if any, have been...it's comforting to know that an intelligent voice like SolarOne has emerged as such an inspiring voice. |
I don't think that there was any judgment passed when the question was posed about driving an SUV. I thought it was a good question. |
You're at the dress rehearsal this morning?! May I have your life, Mel -- please, please -- just for today? I hope your experience is blog-worthy. But I understand that Monty Monday has priority. Keep up the great blogging, Mel. |

Lilly is expensive. |
