Mel, I do love what you write, and your style, but you do realize that walking around the Marais isn't exactly off the beaten path, right?

It might be because I actually lived in Paris for 6 months, but as far as I know, the Marais is pretty touristic ...

It's still absolutely beautiful, though, and I'm glad you had a great time.

Wonderful photos! I'm really enjoying your travelogue!
Thank you!

@Gwen, I've visited Paris 3 times but never went to the Marais. I saw the Eiffel Tower, The Lourve, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, the things all the tourists see. I liked seeing a different neigborhood through Mel's eyes, and will visit the Marais next time I'm there now. Oh, and these pictures are nice too!

Thanks for all of the wonderful pictures--especially from Musee Rodin. I also liked the Van Gogh's! Your shot of Musee D'Orsay made me feel like I was there.

Your photos are beautiful! Thank you for sharing.

You are a dream come true for those of your readers who haven't been to these places. You really need to start doing some books about your trips! Your pictures are amazing and have the feeling of really being there. Thank you so much! I still have an image of Jerusalem in my head from your pictures, and my own husband has been there, teaching English there one summer. I have not been out of the country, but feel like I am traveling with you. You are a dear!

Thank you Mel, thank you. A wonderful series on Paris. By the way, I never worry about "touristy" activity when I go somewhere I don't live because....I'm a tourist when I go there. By definition. I just want to have a good time! I'm glad you take the cruise every time. I would too.

Again, lovely shots...looks like the weather was beautiful. Musée d'Orsay is my favorite.

Food and wine...show the food!

We'll be spending next June in France and your photos are making me crazy with excitement! Great photos. I particularly like the daytime view of the Eiffel Tower. xoxo

Gosh, brings back so many memories! A trip to Paris needs to be put on my list of things to do very soon (ugh, after New York, New York!).

See??? I'm not the only one who thinks the book idea is a winner...XXOO

Great photos! Has your opinion of Paris changed?? Hopefully

I did not know you were allowed to take photos of the artwork (paintings esp), I was always under the impression it damaged the paintings. I guess not.

Lovely photos! I was just in Paris two weeks ago and already want to go back. First on my list is the Musee D'Orsay because it was closed on our one full day there. It looks amazing though! We also went to les Invalides - which was more interesting than I expected!

anonymous,

at the orsay they let you photograph anything you like so long as you didn't touch the paintings and you didn't use a flash.

cheers, mel

I'm happy to know that you enjoyed your stay in Paris. It's my favorite city and it brings me great pleasure to learn more about the experiences of others. Merci pour les belles postes!

Thanks for posting pictures of your trip; hopefully someday Mr. TG and I will get over to France...

Mel, Some of my most favorite things -- THANK YOU! Your pics are somuch better than mine. Gwen and Anonymous, you really have seen far, far too much. You need to stay home for awhile to get over yourselves.

Bateaux Mouches 'touristy'?
Oui.
Mais classique, n'est pas?

Mel, Your photos are extraordinary. Thanks for sharing!

Love the pictures! I was actually wondering the same thing about taking pictures of works of art. I am glad to see that it is OK to do so. Thanks for sharing your vacation with us. Next time, you should ride around Paris on a Vespa!!

I don''t mind that I am not going to Paris this year as you have taken me there with your wonderful photography of such special places.
Loved your shot of the Eiffel Tower. Merci

Tourtisty/non-touristy? When one of your blog readers want to come to Paris to do non-touristy things like my laundry and grocery shopping, let me know. I'll happily let them, while I take a boat ride on the Seine.

Blogdinka, don't be rude. I was not being rude, I honestly did not know you could take photos and I was asking a question. Sorry you thought I was speaking badly of Mel, good grief get over it!!

Ah, Mel, you and I are different in so many different ways. (Vive la difference.) I could have spent an entire day in a single gallery of a single museum! (Thanks for the travelogue. It's so refreshing to see real Mansard roofs after all of the copycat architecture we get around here.)

As I'm unable to vacation this summer, it's been a great treat to look at your Paris pictures! Excellent decision to dine at Les Deux Magots, not only is the food great but the people watching is even better!

Happy 4th and thank you for the photos, Mel!

Thanks for posting these photos. Paris is indeed a beautiful city. I enjoy following your travels.

Next time, use Paris Muse -- www.parismuse.com -- they are a group of wonderful art historians (founder is a Harvard/NYU grad specializing in Matisse sculpture) that can personalize your gallery tours... big and small...

Thank you for posting your wonderful photos!

Les Raboteurs de Parquets (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong) is one of my all time favorite paintings. Love it! Thanks for putting it up there.
