Tell It Like It Is

Gravatar Hi,

Look I am seriously thinking about buying digital music... But I dont know which one (I think itunes as its simple) BUT you seem to think eMusic is better... How is it better (what are the benefits)...

PLEASE REPLY..

Thanks Michael

Gravatar Big, BIG respect on the Electrelane (and indeed your blog, whihc I find I am visiting ever more regularly!) keep it coming, especially the shoegazing - or do you prefer 'Dream pop'?!

Ed

Gravatar Michael,
eMusic is a whole lot less expensive than iTunes. I pay $19.95 a month and get 90 downloads. iTunes is a flat $0.99 for each song.
Also, the iTunes songs have DRM which restricts the usage of the downloaded songs. They are offering DRM free now for $0.30 more per song but the songs are watermarked. eMusic has no DRM, just straight mp3's.
Plus, signing up with eMusic you get 25 free downloads (2 albums) which is good too.
Hope that helps...

Ed, thanks for the kind words on the blog! It's a fine line between dream pop and shoegaze, to me the classic shoegaze sound is the droning guitars with female vocals hovering above (think MBV for the model). Dream pop have more elements of both pop and the traditional shoegaze sound, i guess...

Gravatar I hate to say it but iTunes has a much bigger selection. If your into the big bands you have to go with iTunes .

Gravatar True, with iTunes you will get more of the "mainstream" artists but that is even changing for eMusic and have seen more of those on there too. For indie stuff eMusic is by far the best and for the price without the DRM hassle it is well worth it....

Gravatar Dang, that Pogues cover is KILLER!
