The idea of Tame Iti as a "terrorist" would be funny if the notion hadn't had such serious consequences for a lot of people. What were the police thinking?

Te Qaeda isn't mine. As for the WMDs, there have been reports about Napalm, confirmed by of all people, the Prime Minister. I'm still skeptical mainly because of the gulf between the technical competence required to make and use Napalm and the actual competence of the alleged conspirators (i.e. clowns).
It seems to be an odd substance to want to make, doesn't it? One might have thought Molotov cocktails or pipe bombs if these people were really terrorists.
When this all blows over, I think we'll see that two complementary things happened; a) play-actors in the woods got really into their parts, and b) the police thought they were watching something other than theatre.
I'm being generous here. mind you; the suspicious part of my nature notes that this uproar began precisely when the government wanted to enhance its Terrorism Suppression act.

And it did seem to serve as a pretext for the police to go after the entire NZ left--peace activists, environmentalists , maori sovereigntists, etc.
