Now see, not being a West Virginian, I would just notice the irony of a guy named "Byrd" writing an article about an emu.

Gravatar Ha! I didn't even notice that.

Gravatar Any idea if emus can get OCD? My department got to take a 'field trip' to the zoo last week (I love my job! And yes, I work in accounting; it was a promo deal for businesses to get a sneak peek at some new rental areas they're building, including a room next to the new dome *under* the dolphin pool! Very cool. Will be even cooler with dolphins.) And we walked aaaallllll the way back to The Plains area to see the lions, giraffes, zebras, kangaroos, gazelle, & elephant. Except none of them were there. All we got was "dirt & birds," as in empty animal areas and lots of mallards, with a few swans & emus here & there. One of the emus was standing up at the fence, which is wooden, and has little metal identification plaques periodically. He was pecking at one of those, overandoverandover. Didn't even really stop when we walked up to him. And then we saw one side of his neck had most of the feathers rubbed off. Poor thing, I really think he forgot to take his meds. Either that or the 'dirt & birds' got to him too.
