Gravatar Kim - I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know how much it hurts to lose a four legged friend.

Gravatar Aww Kim, I'm so sorry about your babies. Can't the police be called? There must be some kind of leash law so at the very least, this guy should have to pay a fine for letting that murderer run free. I just don't understand people sometimes.

Gravatar Oh, my, Kim, that's awful. I agree with Jodi though, call the cops. Most areas have leash laws, and the dog should be designated as a dangerous animal. God forbid he does this to a young child. That happened here recently. A pit bull grabbed a baby from the uncle holding him. Dogs like that need to be locked up or put down.

Gravatar Hello Kim, I came over from Denny's place. Your post made me cry.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful kitties.

((hugs))

Gravatar Absolutely, call the police or animal control. Soon, that dog won't stop at smaller animals, he'll go on to small children. I love al animals, but there comes a time when you have to do what's best for the others. I'm so sorry you had to endure this pain. It's so needless. Had the owner not been negligent, this wouldn't have happened. Some people just don't deserve to have animals.

Gravatar What Police

12 ga shotgun & double ought buckshot.

If animal control or police show up tell them the dog was acting funny and you though it had rabies. You would rather be safe than sorry.

Gravatar My prayers and condolences are with you. I am truly sorry that you had to lose 2 of your best friends because of some asshole and his dog. Calling the cops will accomplish nothing. Cops are all about doing anything to get out of doing their job. Shooting the dog will only get you in trouble. Hmmm... I think if the dog were to find a nice raw hamburger ball filled with rat poison the next time he came to your yard, it would be very hard for anyone to prove who did it and the dog would probably go home and die. I don't like the idea of killing anything but violent creatures can only be dealt with by violent means. Good luck. By the way, I believe animals have souls just like people do.

Gravatar I am so sorry about your cat(s). That's so sad.

Personally, after the second time, I'd be waiting for that son of a bitchin' dog with a 12 guage. Better still, some raw hamburger meat laced with rat poison should do the trick.

Gravatar You poor thing. I'm thinking of you.

Gravatar Kim...

So sorry about the loss of your cat. I know how hard it is to lose a pet...(had to have my 20 year old cat euthanized last year)

I am just wondering....your cat Lucky, is he declawed? Cuz many dogs dont want to tussle with a cat that has a full set of claws....

I have two new kittens (well, they are a year old now) brothers.....and they are strictly indoors, as was my 20 year old....(because I dont want to go thru what you have)

Sorry again about the loss....

Time to break out the BB gun and pepper that dogs arse....

(and I do have a dog, but she is a wee little mini collie and loves cats)

Gravatar Sorry for your double loss.

Yep, had many cats go south on me over the years. Worst was seven kittens in seven days from feline lukemia(sp) - at least that's what the vet thought. None of mine ever were done by a dog. If one had been, it would have been the ONLY one done by that particular dog for certain.

That said, if you can't bring yourself to do something about a large strange dog killing YOUR animals in YOUR yard, find a friend who will handle the chore. Because the next time it might decide to chew on something larger.

Gravatar Very sorry to hear about your loss Kim. I believe though that your Sugar Ray Lucky and Cinders are playing together, up there or somewhere, with my Bobbie-Lou, Tammi-Sue, Chester and Spooky. I've lost a few also, but I'm still going. You'll find your way.

Gravatar Loving cats and losing them is hell. The little critters force ya to take em in as strays, grow on ya and soon you are dependent on their companionship. Who needs Dr Phil ###garbage when ya got feline phiolosophy!

I also came over from Grouchy's and will go back so I can talk nasty. Good luck with your career and believe in Rainbow Bridge.

Gravatar Having recently gone thru the loss of my cat companion of 18 years, I send heartfelt condolences. I don't know where you live, Kim, but here in NC Animal Control would handle this. And yes, I agree with whoever said (Mark Twain?) "if there are no cats or dogs in heaven, I don't want to go there.."

Gravatar Sorry for your loss. I agree, shooting the dog would be ideal, but... Antifreeze works well if left in a bowl for the killer hound. Just don't let the cats out until he is dead.

Gravatar Sorry for your loss.

While I hate to say it, in my experience the cops won't do squat.

My advice is to use the three S's.

Shoot.

Shovel.

Shut up.

Gravatar Dear Kim:

I just happened to be on Grouchy's site for the first time and saw the sad news. I am grieved at your loss and in the manner of it. May God bless you with an outpouring of love and support to care you through this dark time.

Karen

Gravatar I'm so sorry for your loss, again. I'm agreeing with the above posters. I or someone I know would be exacting revenge, if only to keep it from doing it to any one else's pets or children in the future. God Bless and Be Strong. Dawn

Gravatar {{KIM}}!! I can't believe you have to go through this again... soooooo sorry!! Oh and I definitely believe that animals mourn their animal buddies too! Have seen it many times. Ramble all you wish if it helps.

Gravatar An afterlife for pets? Why not.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Gravatar Aww, Kim, I'm so sorry to hear about this. Go ahead and grieve all you need to, it's important. And remind yourself of what an intelligent, compassionate, awesome young woman you are. You'll get through this, and your schoolwork, and your anxiety. You're not alone. {{{Kim}}}

Gravatar Y'all are awesome. Thank you.

Gravatar have both dogs and cats. Dogs when outside are on a run and muzzled......So when some bunghole like the dog owner in your situation lets a mean dog run loose,it p#sses me off.............I agree with Assrot, only ground glass instead of rat poison...

Gravatar I'm so sorry about your kitty. We have both dogs and cats, and keep them separate (the cats are indoors, the dogs outdoors). So I understand the instinct to shoot the dog to eliminate the problem, even though it's not the dog's fault he's acting like a dog. Shooting the dog will end the attacks.

Until the ignorant SOB gets another dog.

Call the police (or sheriffs department). Call your local Humane Society. File complaints.

I believe your kitties are together, warm and happy, and remember you with love. And they'll be there on the other side waiting for you when you get there.

Gravatar My advice to you is: kill the dog, before it kills a child. Cats are just training.

If you don't want to kill the dog, howerver, sue the dog owner. Seriously. Make him pay, literally.

Gravatar I could have lost Edloe to a Rottweiler that a neighbor was walking, but the Rottweiler decided that he didn't want to mess with over twenty pounds of bad news. Or, perhaps the fact that Edloe just sat there and sniffed noses with him.

I don't know what I would have done if something had happened.

Kim, I'm so very sorry about your loss...

Gravatar Hi, I just wanted to say, as a cat owner myself, that I'm sorry for your loss. After all of this there isn't much to say but I think I can offer you a little reassurance. The bible isn't very specific about pets in the afterlife but it *is* specific about the presence of animals there. YOu have to assume that these animals came from somewhere. That's my comfort, anyway. I hope it can be yours too.

Gravatar I'm sorry for your loss.

You DO need to take care of the dog, though:

FIRST: Report him and his owner to the authorities. Yes, they probably won't do anything, but you need to "follow channels," if only to protect yourself.

SECOND: Shoot the dog. If you can't bring yourself to do it, find a friend who will. DO NOT USE POISON! Odd are that you will accidentally poison the wrong animal. Wait for the malicious dog to come onto your property again, and shoot him. If he's running with a pack, shoot as many of them as possible.

And don't worry if he's only wounded. If he makes it home, and his owner calls the authorities, you now have "proof," other than your eyewitness, that his dog was trespassing. Also, after shelling out money to have the wound treated, his owner might take measures to see that he doesn't wander any more. If not, just shoot him again.

YOU have the RIGHT to protect YOUR property. YOU also have a RESPONSIBILITY to your neighbors: If he's killing your pets, Lord only knows what else he's doing that you don't know about.

-Eric

Gravatar I am very sorry for your loss.I love the rainbow bridge idea.My mother used to say(I am not sure if its hers or she heard it from someone)dogs are good for the heart, but cats are good for the soul. But I bet you allready know that. Please take care, mike Ps mom also used to say "dogs have owners, cats have staff"

Gravatar Heaven without animals... doesn't sound like that good an arragement.

I've been asured I'll never get there anyway so I'll just go where the cats are.

Must remember to take treats.

Gravatar I'm sorry for your loss, but the hypocrisy here is stunning.

You let your cats roam in a rural area, knowing they are killing machines devestating the local birdlife and wildlife populations, yet you complain when they meet a more efficient predator.

Again I'm sorry that your Cats died, but if you were a responsible owner, they wouldn't have been out killing and met a better killer.

The dog isn't evil, it was doing EXACTLY what your cats were doing, just one step up the food chain - were your cats evil?

Oh and nice try to those putting forward the "a dog that kills a cat will kill a child" nonsense, there are no facts to back that up, but give it a try anyway.

Kill the dog and you risk the owner returning the favour or escalating - I'd avoid that.

Keep your Cats indoors where they aren't slaughtering birdlife and they are not at risk, but don't let them out to kill and then complain that they got killed.

Responsible pet ownership isn't just for everyone else.

Yes, I know I'm the bad guy for telling you that you are to blame too. Nobody ever likes to hear that.

Gravatar Sorry to hear about your losses. I know exactly what you feel.

About fifteen years ago one of our cats was killed by a dog pack. Pi died a few minutes after I chased off the dogs. Her sister Candy missed her afterwards. This brings it back.

I don't know whether there is an afterlife but Heaven certainly wouldn't be Heaven without our pets.

I was able to contact some of the dogs' owners and while they didn't admit responsibility they did take some precautions to stop their dogs from getting out. This was enough to break up the pack.

With dogs if you have a group of at least three with at least one female (to provide the leader) then pack behaviour can take over. Dogs can become dangerous even when they are not particularly agressive by themselves. I don't know if this has happened in your case.

To Harry Tuttle, shut up you sanctimonious piece of dirt. People are hurting and all you can do is take the oportunity for a piece of moralistic breastbeating. Accusations of hypocriscy are often a sign of self righteousness. They obviously are in your case. I am withholding my full opinion of you out of courtesy to Kim. Decent people do not have to make a show of how virtuous they are or seek to feel virtuous.

Kim, sorry for the rant but self righteousness is one of my hot buttons. The other main one is cruelty. The previous comment hit both of them.

Gravatar If dog handler or police won't do anything about that dog, then contact a gun owner to shoot it. The owner should pay all costs and be heavily fined for his irresponsibilty.

Gravatar Thanks Lloyd, you have simply confirmed that you are clueless, you have addressed none of the points raised and fallen back on "feel good" pabulum - people are hurting because they didn't take responsibility for their pets - if they don't recognise that fact, it will happen again.

Please show where I claimed how virtuous I was. clown.

The Cats were allowed to run free, they met a better predator - suddenly I am the bad guy for dealing with the facts.

Gravatar The cats should be allowed to run free on their owners' property. And they did kill birds and mice - you're right, it is the "circle of life". But nobody loved the birds and mice. Your rudeness and insensitivity aren't appreciated here. The dogs came onto my property and killed my cats when they were in MY yard. I feel guilty enough for not being there for them.

Gravatar You mean that the birds and animals were not loved by YOU.

Stop complaining, your cats got nailed as part of the "circle of life", surely thats a good thing?

The hypocrisy is more stunning by the day.

Gravatar And you're being more trollish by the day. That's all for you - IP banned.

Gravatar My heart goes out to you.We just lost our beloved Tabby to a coyote. I am not an advocate of hunting or killing animals at all...but I have been feeling so desperately sad and angry, part of me wishes I could eliminate every coyote in our locality! My kitty was so soo intelligent, confident, loving, patient, gentle, independant. He was a very important person in our family, and there is a big vacancy in our hearts and in our home.I never thought anything could/would happen to him...he seemed almost --immortal.I can't get over how such a sophisticated, dignified being could be taken from this world in such a savage way. Anyway, I totally understand how you feel. I spent the past few hours searching the internet for some source of comfort (-that is how I happened upon your entry). I want to let you know I did find some interesting book titles:

Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates by Gary Kurz

Animals and the Afterlife: True Stories of Our Best Friends' Journey

Beyond Death by Kim Sheridan

Do Dogs Go To Heaven? Eternal
Answers for Animal Lovers by Jean Holmes

Goodbye, Friend: Healing Wisdom for Anyone Who Has Ever Lost a Pet by Gary Kowalski

Blessing the Bridge: What Animals Teach Us About Death, Dying , and Beyond by Rita M. Reynolds

*I might look into a few of these.
Perhaps you would like to as well!

Take care, and have faith that when it is our time to go we will be greeted by our beautiful animals.

Shannon
