If you need study-buddies the old, "Hey I'm thinking of starting a study group and thought you and...would be great additions. What do you say? I need some people to help me keep a bit of sanity in this place! And you guys seem just crazy enough to try." Or some such thing... And if friends are to be made from that it will usually come. Jump in on interesting conversations. Help people out when possible and...just be you.
Congrats on the article. Maybe you could just start handing out signed copies to your med school buddies...that would make you a lot of friends.

Ok, I know you personally and you have to be one of the greatest girls I know. So why worry? I know you'll be fine. You have to remember that all of you have one thing in common (The thought of starting med school and absolutely no idea what that will bring). The newness will wear off soon and you'll begin to shine. You have to be the initiator though. Some people are backward and won't open up unless you give them the opportunity. Open up with "Did you read or study about *whatever u are on*" and they'll answer. Then ask them what they think of the whole medical school thing and chances are you will find something in common and will have something to talk about in the future. You're a great gal, I'm not worried for ya at all!

Hey! What's wrong with being a misfit? :p
Aw, your dad is so sweet.
Ask some of these future friends if they would like to go out for coffee, or eat lunch together. Studying together is always an opportunity. I think you might have to study in med school. Hee.

I don't know you but from what I read on here you are a nice and interesting person and I am sure you will soon have many friends. It may be hard getting them but when you have them they are more precious than gold.
