Gravatar I suppose running/jogging would be something to work your way up to, from briskly walking.

Holding weights in your hands is a definite plus to build arm and leg muscles. Of course, jogging can be rough on joints, etc. Jumping rope, in my efforts, is decent enough for timing and discipline, but doesn't do a whole lot for arm strength.

Over 50? If the chap hasn't worked out before, stick with brisk walking.

(Why do I get the feeling Hula Hooping is the right answer to both?)

And based on the pics you post, I still don't know what's the ugliness you speak about all the time....

Gravatar Yeah, knockout. And brisk walking, specially up a moderate incline.

Gravatar I would go with Running/jogging and Jumping rope for the first answer and Briskly walking for the second.

Gravatar All of the above? With the disclaimers mentioned by Jeff.
And congratulations on the weight loss, particularly at this time of year.

Gravatar All are good and accepted methods of exercise for anyone. But, good and accepted methods of exercise for a man over 50, in public, who does not wish to be stared at would not include hula hooping.

Congrats on the weight loss! That is amazing.
