Why does no one ever mention that Keith Best head of the Immigration Advisory Service had to resign from Parliment for BT shares fraud ?
Whether you are for or against mass immigration, why is so little attention given to the fact that it distorts GDP growth figures? Much of the GDP growth of which the government boasts is because immigrants boost the working population with a consequent growh of GDP. But it's not the size of the GDP that matters, it's the size of the GDP divided by the number of people and if the population is growing fast, then fast GDP growth isn't so impressive as it doesn't reflect growth in the prosperity of individuals.
Strip this effect out of the figures, plus the (unsustainable) boost to GDP given by public sector borrowing and spending, and all of a sudden GDP growth looks very mundane indeed.
The likes of Digby Jones won't be paying any bills, that will be left for others to deal with.
