Gravatar I once worked for a council.

Everyone (all the way to the top)was "none too bright" and/or lazy and indifferent.

To have contol over millions of pounds but not see this coming requires....

Gravatar When I left school back in the 60s two sectors were widely accepted as havens for the lazy and/or incompetent.
1. banking. Pay poor but you could only get sacked if you were caught with your hands in the till or surprisingly- consistently late for work.
2. Civil service- pay also poor but it seemed that no-one ever got sacked.

I chose banking and stuck with it for three miserable years until I saw sense.

Is it any wonder that local government is in such a mess? If the Police are said to be "institutionally racist" (which I doubt)then local government can be assumed to be institutionally incompetent.

How many fines for flicking fag ash out of car windows, for dropping litter, for parking outside your own home etc etc will it take to get this money back?
Do we, dare we trust this lot with any money at all?

Gravatar I went to an offshore Icelandic online casino last night. First few spins I won £5,000. I decided to take a high risk punt of £5,000 on black 13. Sadly it came up 30 red.

Luckily Mr Darling popped up this morning and told me all my losses were guaranteed and I will get my money back.
Even better, I get to keep the £5,000 profit I made on the first spins of the wheel.

Doesn't bode very well for you then!

Gravatar What are all these expensive CEOs doing? They aren't improving services so they should be watching the finances, they are supposed to be sooooh clever, aren't they.
Why are councils allowed to play fast and loose with public money for God's sake, it is NOT theirs to play with. Surely the chief officers should be under investigation.

Gravatar "They should always treat councils like children who cannot be expected to understand anything"

I forgot to mention, Who says the judiciary doesn't work.

Prentiz.... cheek.

Gravatar Here is some entertainment from Max Keiser, once a Wall Street broker, concerning Iceland broadcast a year ago:

Enjoy, unless you lost money, that is.

Gravatar tb - good point.

I'm wondering how you rate people who've worked in both the civil service AND a bank. They must be really REALLY dumb...

Oh... er... IIRC that's precisely what I did.

Hmmmmm.

Gravatar EC Forster-

Excellent vid - I'll post it on a blog

Gravatar My council lost £11000000 in a country of 300000 people with an economy based on fish.

I will have to get up every morning to go to a job I hate until I die to pay the wages and pensions of these people.

Will any of them get sacked or demoted
will my council cut back on out-reach workers will they stop building their flash new offices.

Or will mugs like me have to pay up more council tax out of the ever decreasing amount of money I have left after Gordon Brown takes his cut and all the bills are paid.

Bitter you bet I am.
