That is the pretty thing, our money is going to help someone else when we as locals are just needing such financial support
Re CDC, I hope yur correspondent has been following their cash grabbing antics in Private Eye over the past few months.
Didn’t see Scotland on that list; they seem to have been swallowing large amounts of Gov't cash for ages without any discernable return for England
DFID is one of those Departments that will be abolished, along with its budget, on the first day of the Gillies dictatorship.
It's not often your posts make me weep with frustration ... actually, almost all your posts make me weep with frustration, but this had the added fillip of rage.
Can we not string the whole lot of them up on lamp posts now?
I have en one of the consultants who has worked for/with DFID on many many occasions. I have seen budget support given in at least six countries and seen also that:
it has to be collected in person, often in cash from a European city - often Basel, Zurich and most often Geneva;
Accounting for it locally is always tricky. It is converted to the local currency at an amazing rate;
it seems to make no difference to local outcomes;
it disappears from the local budget very promptly.
