We have NHS dentists, but a different dentist for each member of the family.
GOS juinor has a local dentist, Mrs GOS and Gosling see a dentist in Bakewell (25 mile round trip), and I see a dentist in Matlock (40 mile round trip) - not good for govt green targets is it?

Hi, I'm sure this DLA report should read that people need complex treatment like crowns and bridges (expensive with high lab costs) but get basic cheap dark ages treatment instead like tooth extraction and dentures.
The only way dentist can avoid the implications of the new contract is to go private....

I was looking for the famous stains:
"George Washington employed the services of John Greenwood in 1798. He is credited with making Washington’s dentures. George’s teeth
were always stained and Dr. Greenwood believed this was due to the President’s drinking of port wine. Dr. Greenwood instructed George Washington on how to prevent and also
how to remove this stain. Perhaps George also soaked them in wine overnight."

A firend of mine was quoted nearly £30,000 (yes, £30k) for (private) treatments to fix his teeth in the UK.
He went to the Ukraine and had the work done by a team of top dentists (it took a week) for just £3k - including more advanced treatments than are available in the UK.
This shows what a racket most medical and dental treatments are in the UK - NHS or private. We have allowed the medical and dental unions to restrict access to the 'professions' and to rip us off as a result. These are skilled, but not exceptional, occcupations - would that they were exposed to the same international competitions as the engineering and electronics industries.
The charity, Sightsavers International, performs cataract operations for just £17, whereas the NHS (using consultants to do a simple technician's task) charges at least £800. We are protecting and being ripped off by these professions which do nothing to enhance our economic competitiveness (in fact, they hinder it).

I believe that those teeth were responsible for the separation of powers in the US. George liked to take them out, so preferred to work at the White House, and it came from that.

I'd no idea Washington's teeth had such a colourful and significant history. Mind you, if I had teeth like that, I'd prefer to work with them out as well

HJ- I hesitate to ask what dental work your friend needed that took a week's work by a crack Ukrainian team.
But at £30 vs £3 grand, I'm not surprised he checked out Kiev

Wat,
He needed practically everything doing. He knew about the dental practice from a former Russian girlfriend who had her teeth done there. The practice has such a fine reputation that rich Russians fly down from Moscow to have their teeth done. The facilities they had were better than anything he has seen in the UK.
Incidentally, it wasn't in Kiev and the cost included taking an interpreter with him for the week!
