Gravatar No it isn't, at least not at our local school - it is decided by the pay review committee of the governing body. Mrs Infoholic sits on it. The Head makes recommendations (except for him/herself), but the PRC have the final say. Don't know if the rest of the country uses the same model, but it works well enough, within the current constraints - ideally it would be more flexible. Further regulations are NOT what it needs.


Gravatar And if teachers were allowed to get on with the job they have been employed for - teaching children, there wouldn't be a need for additional low-paid assistants making a further drain on already stretched school budgets.


Gravatar The same issue killed the Roots car company plant in Liverpool. They invested in a new plant there because wages were lower than elsewhere. Very shortly after opening the unions moved in to get parity with where the plant moved from.

The new plant closed.

Ah well. Some people will never learn.
