my son went to an suburban London school. Since pulling him out into private his reading has improved immeasurably.
Expectations were very low at the state school because of the numerous Polish etc. children at the school entering with no English whatsoever.

My wife is a teacher in a northern suburb. A tranche of foreign children are entering the british school system (one of which was recently removed permanently after stealing a car, driving it to school and parking it in the teachers car park), in her case the most recent being a young boy from the DR Congo who's 3 labguages, none of which are english, are all spoken languages only. She is expected to get him up to standard along with a large glut of young eastern europeans and even some men (one man having been in the British education system since he was 15 and now being 25). There is something very silly about this; the problem would be instantly solved if parents were given monetary incentives (like a voucher scheme) to start their own schools and teach their nearest and dearest; most polish parents cant want their childs education to be ruined by a language barrier - let them have the funding, control it and monitor the results like hawks. This would apply across all niches.

Why do you send your children to a good state school like I did ? There are loads and everyone you know can send their children there.
I like the blog though.

Ah, Your Reverence...
Good spot.
Mrs T already red-penned the same error and severely admonished me.
I explained to her that the table was ripped direct from the Telegraph article, so wasn't my fault.
But she said that made things worse- cribbing other people's homework is a very serious matter.
I may be sent to see Miss Sharpe.
Wonder what happened to the Telegraph journo?
