I heard this as I drove to work and I concur with your assessment. What made me laugh was the Head teacher who said something to the effect that the children were distraught about not getting their results. Well my son who has just taken his key stage three exams couldn’t give a monkeys. The reason being that they make absolutely no difference to his education at all. Of course my son may be the sort of person who wouldn’t give a monkeys anyway but he goes to a state selective grammar school (see the sixth in the list here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/educa...on/6250253.stm) because that is where he wanted to go so I have to assume otherwise.

How terribly sad for those children being made to wait, and how terribly sad for our education system to be in the hands of faceless incompetent bureaucrats who fail to fulfil a contractual obligation safe in the knowledge that they cannot be sacked.

aren't they in breach of their contract ?
they should be fined big bucks.
Finally, why another US organisation ? You have to admire US companies aggressively colonising Britain without a shot being fired - and fantastically supine government.

The IBM defence is an interesting one as it was killed off by a manager at Drexel - the junk bond firm.

The story is that the IT manager walked in with a proposal to buy an IBM mainframe, and his boss asked why.

He had to ask and ask and ask, but eventually got the response of, "Because no one ever got fired for buying IBM".

To which his boss responded:

"WRONG".
