I particularly enjoyed the bit when that muppet who is supposedly "Chief Executive" of the NHS claims that the new QOF and the GPs pay deal has improved the quality of GPs work, having earlier said that under the old system there was no way of assessing the quality of their work. and that was why the new system was introduced.
The deal was also apparently necessary because the BMA said that GPs were threatening to resign if they weren't offered a better deal. Did it not occur to these idiots to consider whether they were likely to carry out this threat? Who else was going to employ them if they did resign? They would have been cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

I don't think the GPs are to really to blame, if my boss came along to me and said "I want to double your salary, and want you work less" I am not going to say no am I?

It was certainly 'ground breaking', but only in terms of stupidity and recklessness.

GPs are paid a bonus for meeting the target of seeing patients needing urgent care within 48 hours. Apparently most GP practices meet this target. Yet my experience with my own GP is that it is practically impossible to get an appointment by phone on the morning of need. When you finally get through you are told that all appointments today have been allocated and to try again tomorrow. But my name is not noted and presumably my need is not recorded and does not appear in the records relating to meeting targets. If this is widespread, then it is plainly a fraud on the taxpayer, both in not providing the promised service and nevertheless claiming payment for it.
Perhaps I am wrong?
The only way to get an appointment is to queue outside the surgery with 15 or so other disgruntled people at 08.30 just as we used to do 40 years ago, but we cannot do that in the evening and so the service has actually become far worse.
Is this widespread?
