Gravatar These early school leavers are not all delinquents. What about the addtional cost of the tax that the school leavers that would have got work would have been paying. It makes me sick.

Gravatar It doesn't make sense that they need to raise the level to 18 when the New Deal, which cost us multi billions since 1997, has been such a huge success...does it?

Gravatar Look on the bright side... It'll get two years-worth of school leavers off the unemployment register.

Gravatar It's just another ruse to get the unemployment figures down (again). When will people agree that not everyone benefits from years and years at school?

There's a (not very well attended) petition on the downing st website too. Unfortunately it closes in a couple of days...

Gravatar ROSLA 2 is like turning up the car radio because the engine is making funny noises. It seems clear that our governments in the last few decades have been unable to sustain and nurture trade and manufacturing industry - for a variety of reasons. I fear a major economic crisis in the next few years.

So far as schools are concerned, Parkinson's Law will apply. Given additional time to fill, children will take longer to learn the same things (or fewer) that they would once have learned by 14; and new topics will be introduced (work studies? advanced citizenship? driver education? money management?).
