There is certainly a lot there to be sad about and a lot there that seems likely, but none of it is guaranteed to happen - though it does seem like it would take some big shifts in the way Americans approach politics.

There is a classic gesture in sports when a team is losing and some of its members keep trash talking to the opponents and at a opportune moment members of the winning team silently and eloquently just point to the scoreboard to make their reply.
My passionate hope is that the new Democratic administration will install a huge scoreboard on the front lawn of the White House illustrating the condition of the federal budget and the national debt at the time GWBush took office and where it is now and when any of this predicted vitriol from Republican quarters is thrown at the new POTUS, he or she will simply and eloquently take the media out to the front lawn... and point at the scoreboard.
