What languages does Obama speak, anyway? No one ever says..
Well...I'd guess that he has to have picked up at least a smidgeon of classical Arabic while registered as a Muslim student as a boy.
Obama supposedly had a couple of years of Spanish in college (most liberal arts college require a year of a foreign language, but I can promise you that the graduates of those courses do not speak that language, nor read it).
But remember what Michelle Obama said:
"Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed."
Who knew it would be taking some Spanish classes? By the way, does Michelle Obama speak any other languages? How about their children?

I can attest to the hickness of Europeans, having spent far too much time with the country relatives of my Austrian step-father. Not that the city relatives were any more sophisticated or spoke anything other than demotic German.

Carol, I think Tom & Eric are right about the Arabic and Spanish, and I doubt Obama knows more than a few words of each nowadays. Meaning that he dosen't practice what he preaches. How typical.

Were Obama as sophisticated and well-traveled as he thinks he is, he would have been aware of such matters and not said what he did. Like most liberal Democrats, he is a poseur rather than the genuine article.
