I suspect that the closest Obama got to US History was Zinn's book. But who knows for sure?
What is clear is that he has a view of US history that fits his personal politics. This is the fruit of relativism---not to mention draping himself with the mantle of FDR and Truman.
How are finals going, Professor LaRoche? I just had a review session that demonstrated, again, that my students don't care to study!
When it gets to me, I re-read:

Then I feel better.
Have a great day, sir.

How are finals going, Professor LaRoche? I just had a review session that demonstrated, again, that my students don't care to study!
I gave the last of my finals on Wednesday and finished grading the exams and entering the final course grades on Thursday.
Now, I'm on vacation for the next two months!
It's unfortunate about so many students not wanting to study, but most of them have to learn at one time or another that laziness just won't cut it. I hope those students who received bad grades come to understand that.
As always, I enjoyed that link!

Like you, McCain was not my first choice. I even caused some chaos in the caucus by voting for HRC in the primary (actually a vote AGAINST Obama), but I wish the so-called infamous McCain temper would show itself. Point some fingers, name names, expose the lies and pick a fight. Perhaps Sarah Palin will show up tonite, with lipstick. I hope the campaign machine gets out of the way, stops 'advising' and starts trusting the instincts of these 2 candidates.

I've a partial solution to that: Nothing - I mean zero, zip, zilch, nada - in student aid until they do a term of military service. Teach 'em a little discipline before we spend the money.

I will say, Mr. Kratman, that students of mine who have done military service get better grades, work harder, and understand one of the most critical aspects of college: you don't have to like the professor to learn and do well!
My guess is that they have had to do far worse than sitting in a chair and study, and deal with far worse than aging faux-intellectuals like me!

There's a discipline factor, yes. Another side effect I've noticed is that students with service are a LOT better able to argue with and resist left wing professorial propagandization. I saw it in Law School and I saw it in undergrad at BC.* This is no small benefit at the societal level.
*Note: this does not mean one's grades will not suffer. I can recall a classroom knock down, drag out with a Lebanese Marxist on the subject of Israel. (Of which, by the way, I am not really a huge fan.) Having decided that he couldn't possibly flunk me and was unlikely to give me a better than C- grade, I amused myself by baiting him. Of course, I got the C-. Example test question: "What is a firestorm?" Answer: "A really good way to get rid of excess enemy population if the meteorological conditions are just right and you happen to have a thousand underemployed bombers and 5000 tons of incendiaries. The firestorm operates by..."

As I say, Mr. Kratman, veterans have seen worse than a snotty professor, and dealt with worse than someone trying to screw with their grades.
It's a healthier sense of proportion, I think.

Of course, having to deal with inane questions from leftist students (about the conspiracy to kill Kennedy or Prescott Bush's "business conspiracy" against FDR) is no walk in the park, either. And then there are my Bolshevik colleagues. God, I hate academics.

I often used to tell people, back when I was practising law, "You hate lawyers and think they're the enemy, and you're right...but they're just a general enemy to you and mankind. You can't possibly hate the bastards enough, or understand what an enemy they are, until you become one and they morph from general enemies to personal ones."
