There is no rule about active running backs.

The team can have as many backs as they want active.

Yes, that is correct. 45 players and a third QB-- who makes the first two QBs inactive upon entry into the game.

Wow, it's going to be tough to keep 8 of these guys inactive! My guess for the 8 inactive players:

Frye(3rd QB)
Porkchop OT
Hobbs CB
Branch WR
Engram WR

it's tough after that. Maybe Atkins or Babin, If Spencer isn't ready to go he'll be inactive, Howard Green could be on the list as well, but they'll need him for week 1. The Heater could also be a candidate.

Pork Chop is too versatile in the event of a OL injury to not be active, IMO. Although, I'm not sure what the team did last season as far as active players/inactive players go. It would be interesting to see.

Yeah, chops' versatility helps, but I think Wrotto (or Vallos) is a better Guard and Willis is a better Tackle.

When is the practice squad announced? I believe teams can sign PS players today.

I'm thinking J. Adams, M. Bumpus & J. Newton, assuming someone doesn't claim them off waivers. Beyond that, I don't have a clue.

Not sure of the source, here, but one of the TNT bloggers mentioned that Bumpus and Adams made it through waivers. That means, if it's true, that they are clear for us to sign to the PS. Oh... I hope they're right! That would be a big "YEAH!"
