Gravatar I don't see the Hawks keeping two kickers. Although your reasoning is novel, I just can't see Holmgren endorsing that, unless one of them is superior in this area.

Perhaps that position is replaced by another lineman, perhaps Kyle Williams or Steve Vallos.

You are obviously not a Coug, because if you were, you'd probably have Michael Bumpus making the team. Thanks.

Gravatar Is tubbs still listed as PUP?
This season is really going to put Holmy's offensive metal to the test. With Branch out, that leaves one steady reciever (Engram), on hot and cold tall and slow (Nate) and a bunch of unproven guys - someone there needs to turn into a playmaker. New tight end and a bunch of role player / cast of running backs. Another year plugging holes on the offensive line. The D will be key until they get it all worked out on offense.

I think Weaver or Momo is gone before the begining of the year. I think it may come down to if Julius or Schmitt picks up the offense quick. Weaver is negated by Schmitt and Duckett and Momo and Julius are very similar only I think is faster.

Do we need another cover guy in case of injury? I dont want to have to start bringing in people off the street again this year!

Gravatar I think Bumpus will do well and make the practice squad this year. I dont see him making the team with the steep learing curve for this offense and the other talented / althletic WR who already have logged some time in the system.

Gravatar How many people can we add to the practice squad?

Gravatar 8 players on the practice squad. The players can serve no more than two seasons on the practice squad. And once they have been on the active roster for more than 8 games, they are no longer eligible to be practice squad players.

Gravatar Tubbs could be put on the PUP, but that would only be if he wasn't ready for the season. He was on IR last year, so he starts this year fresh and active unless designated as PUP

Gravatar RED BRYANT!!!

#1 Starting DT

(and he aint even on the list?)

Gravatar I would imagine 3 touchdowns on special teams makes you really slow..
I'll give nate inconsistent, but slow and tall? Nate will score double digit touchdowns again this year.

Gravatar Never mind.. obviously suffering from pre-morning coffee delusions..

mea culpa

Gravatar I like the idea of having two kickers. I also like the idea of having two FB's on some plays and two TE's on some plays. I bet this year we will see some new type of plays that we will talking about for weeks.

Gravatar With Branch and Tubbs on the PUP, doesn't that give us room for two more?

Gravatar I heard on KJR tha Tubbs got scoped and isn't expected back til the regular season.

Gravatar What I meant by slow for Nate was lack of seperation. I'm just not a big fan of his. I think he is pretty good on returns but when you look at last year on a hole his numbers were ok - 50 rec 694 yards 9 tds; but he was a non factor in a lot of games - 1 catch in 5 games, 3 more games with 2 catches. As much as Hass chucked the ball around last year and how much he played this is disapointing.

Part of it may have to do with expectations. When he came over here with the screw you Vikings contract for all that money I thought he would come in and be an impact player. Clearly 18 catches in 06 for 192 yrds is not an impact players line. Watching him sit on the bench for long stretches when the offense struggled in '06 was infuriating for me. I felt we had wasted money. Obviously it just took him time to adjust and fit in to the offense and probably for Holmy to figure out how to work his strengths in but I still feel like he isnt playing up to his potiential.

He tries to beat people with his length too often instead of using technique and the speed we all see on the kick returns. He needs to get better seperation and be more consistant.

Gravatar I think Mike's got it just about spot on.

I can definitely see them keeping two kickers, in fact it's something Ruskell has already talked about doing. They will probably see how things go in camp, if Mare does enough he will stay and will get the gig. He keeps it until he starts messing up, which hopefully he won't.

I love the way the defense hs shaped up - it looks like a top 5 Defense. The offense however, for me, lacks a couple of star veterans to help things along. Hopefully guys like Jones, Carlson and the young receivers can step up and be those stars.

Gravatar Larry Triplett was signed this am, according to the PI

Gravatar Micheal,
What about CB hobbs? He's young and saw some playing time last year. The espn roster also has Omowale Dada listed at CB - was he a practice squad guy?

Gravatar Weaver is safe. It's Kirtman who is out of a job.

A Duckett-Schmitt-Weaver Full House formation behind Walt-Wahle would be sweet. It would be like the opposite of Alexander.

If Coutu can handly kickoffs I see Mare getting cut with that spot going to:

1. Jordan Kent as a gunner filling the special teams only role that Scobey played.

2. Scobey back on the team if his leg heals up.

3. Veteran Olineman.

Gravatar Justin Forsett is a gunner and a damn good one. Plus Owen Schmitt could be a block breaker or whatever it is called. The guy who destroys wedges. I would love to see the Mohawk Schmitt part the Cardinal red sea with fury.

Gravatar How about Jordan Kent?

Gravatar I think Bumpus will make the practice squad, but no way he makes the 53. I think he can be the next Engram, but WCO takes awhile.

I think Chris Cooper has a shot at making the team on defense, and the Hawks may cut Atkins and go with Cooper. Also, Greeen and Triplett could be kept as an extra DT. With our smaller line and Tubbs inability to play much, keeping an extra DT makes sense.

Hawks might keep 2 kickers, but more likely they try to put Coutu on the practice squad. Though other teams might snatch him...

I think Weaver is safe, as long as he has a decent preseason. Mo and Forsett are on the bubble. Mo is cheap enough and good enough, he might start returning kicks. Forsett was a great college back, but he sucked at kick returns, and Ruskell has said his way onto the team is to return kicks....

And I wouldnt be surprised if Omare Lowe makes the team, since he can play safety and CB and is pretty good on special teams. He is fast, but not agile enough to be a starting cb, and too small to be a starting safety. But the guy has carved out a niche on special teams, and I think he's gonna be our gunner. Plus, Mora loves him.

Gravatar D. Hawthorne will be replaced by the very useful L. Tripplett.
I also like C. Cooper or another DE making the team, but it depends mostly on Tubbs coming back. J. Adams will be great for us, he will also be effective on ST.
S. Vallos has a chance of making the team, so does "P." Womack if he comes back.
I think Forsett could make the team, and has the same chance as J. Adams to not get cut.

Gravatar Duckett-Schmitt-Weaver - a dream for us and a nightmare for the other teams!

Gravatar The team usually carries between 7 and 8 linebackers, so Mallard is more likely to replace Hawthorne than Tripplett.

Big Larry will probably fit in some where, but this team is stocked. There are going to be some tough decisions in camp.

Gravatar Tough decisions allright, but everyone at camp is gonna bust thier butts--they have to, the depth at D-line is very good heading into camp.

Camp is gonna be fierce this year!

Good, competition brings out the best in players!

Gravatar I think Womack and Triplett make the team, which means two others won't. Hawthorn won't and Mare will get beat out in all aspects of the kicking game.

Gravatar They have to sign Womack first JoeMck. As of now they have a full boat as far as rosters go, but it will be interesting to see if they address the O line next.

Gravatar Mike--did Womack leave, thinking he could get more playing time elsewhere, or did the seahawks let his contract expire as a way of saying "bye bye" ?

Does he want to play here anymore?
I was frustrated with Holmgren last season, as it was apparent from game 4 on that Sims was sucking and Womack looked better, but Holmy wouldnt hand the job to Womack.

Gravatar Tripplet makes the team for sure. Guy was a full time starter for Buffalo and is a very solid player. Putting him in the rotation keeps whoever they end up keeping fresh and better.

Gravatar realsp-- I would have agreed with this wholeheartedly a couple of weeks ago, but i a tad concerned that since he was released, the first week of Mar, he hasn't had a sniff from another team. At least that I saw. Nobody wants oldish DTs these days. Grady Jackson hasn't even found a job yet and I thought he did well in Jacksonville. Funny.

Gravatar Slave-- Womacks contract was up. He became a free agent. What I have gathered is that he was looking for a place where he could crack the lineup. That obviously didn't happen, so that is why maybe now he would come back.

Gravatar Mike, what is the deal with Howard Green, I liked the way he played last year in his limited time. Did his contract expire??? I think he and Triplett will battle it out for a spot.

Tubbs+Mebane+Bernard+Bryant+Triplett= 1555 lbs of beef, I think our run defense will be very stout this year and Kerney, Tapp, Jackson and Atkins should have a fantastic year.

Gravatar Evan, I too liked the way Green played, but he was average at best. He is under contract for this year and will come to camp.

It looks as if the Hawks are seeking complete domination and just plain nastiness from their DL this year. Unfortunately, average just might not fit

Hope he lands on his feet though.

Gravatar Michael,
Good point with Triplett. Some say they moved him to bring in Stroud and save some cap room. The Bills Daily said he was on the books for $3.8mm which might have been why they didnt try to trade him if they didnt think they would get anything for him. But he did sit for a while. Perhaps the GM's saw the defense rich draft and everyone was waiting until after to make their move in FA.

Or maybe, just like the fans in Cinci that are talking about Shaun Alexander being a tough runner dont know what he is really like beacuse they didnt watch him the last 2 years.

In Ruskell we must trust!
