I predict (hope) it's for Coutu

I think the Hawks need to take a long look at former NE WR Chad Jackson.06 2nd round pick who hurt his knee last year and never found a groove. This kid could be a steal. He's one of the guys where a change of scenery could be all he needs

but after week one the Hawks will have to get rid of two players to make room for the two players coming off of suspension.
If one is forsett, who is the other? Coutu...maybe, but they currently have said otherwise.
Does that mean they get rid of one of the DE's?

Only one space? There will be two players cut when Bernard and Babineaux come back from suspension. Maybe one of them (Mare?) won't be practice-squad eligible.

You're right, Griffin, DE is another possibility. Neither Babin nor Atkins are eligible for the PS.
Interesting puzzle, eh?

Looking at this a little differently, I think this PS needs to get shuffled around a bit.
Kyle Williams is not NFL caliber, he proved that over and over this preseason. The German guy is quite a specimen at 6 foot 7, he would be better insurance with better experience. That's my guess.
What can we do with that spot? Well, we need a LB to go in there since Sartz got dropped (good thing). I think Jackson could be interesting too at WR, but you'd have to cut someone, maybe Floyd, I wasn't too impressed by him. DT Brown is actually solid, if you were watching the line late.
I say we cut T K. Williams and bring in a versatile LB and maybe swap CB Floyd for WR Jackson if possible.

Chad Jackson isn't eligible for a practice squad...he has more than 9 games active.
And Sometimes the players on the practice squad aren't there because they would be counted on if injury occurs. Sometimes they are there to fill practice reps.
Whether the team sees Williams (or Floyd) as NFL quality may be irregardless. The team needs someone to lessen Walts practice reps. CB and WR are usually a popular positions as well, as they do a lot of running during practice and need reps lessened.
The German fellow Gutekunst is here to stay...he is part of the international practice squad player program.
I think Linebacker is a concern as well, but usually you can find linebackers at any given point. Look at the # of quality vet linebackers that were released today (Thomas, Boiman, Etc).

I think that Atkins gets cut Babin is a 1st rounder who has tried his ass off to reserect his career. If we were going to let Forsett go then we would have been testing others at PR. If we cut him who does it? No Engram, Burleson is to vailuble.

It's nice to see that Bumpus made it to the PS.

I trust Sando's opinion that Williams has potential and has shown NFL caliber growth under Solari. Do not be surprised if Payne and Green get cut next week. I live in Charlotte, and they are keeping a kickoff specialist and a field goal kicker... we may do the same. Either way, we are not going to pay Mare 1.75M for one game.

Yeah, I saw John Morgan say that on Field Gulls. I disagree, but I have been wrong before.
Why would we cut Green if he had made the team over Atkins before the suspensions were announced?
And Payne looks like one of our core special teams players right now.
They may keep both kickers though, but Mare is here for sure. They aren't guaranteeing him 1.75 million for nothing.

What we do know is that when the suspensions end the Hawks will have to cut two players.
I assume they intend one of those to go to the practice squad.
The other one is probably someone who wouldn't make it to the practice squad or is in-elligible.
Do we believe them about Coutu? If we do, they who are the odd men out?

Its Coutu to PS. Atkins and Babin aren't eligible and one of them will be cut to play elsewhere in 2008.
Hey Michael, what is the likely story with Tubbs after his being cut? Will he continue rehabbing this year and tryout with us or someone else in 09? Has anyone talked to him?

Ha, that assumes there aren't any impending trades.
I say, none of the above. More to come.

I hate to be the person to bring this up, but all this speculation about who gets cut might be impacted by any injuries that might occur during the Bills game. The benefit of the suspensions is that it provides us some veteran depth in the event of an injury in week one.

Only chance i see coutu staying is if someone who is practice squad eligable is injured badly in first game. Or if forsett fumbles 3 times in first game.

Injured and active: Branch, Engram. PS: Bumpus. IR: Obomanu. Active and ready to play: Burleson, Kent, Taylor - and Payne. That's it for active WRs going into the season, so I don't see how Payne gets cut. Or am I forgetting someone? Wallace would be the fifth ready to play on Sunday.

While technically not receivers, Morris, Jones and Weaver have demonstrated pass capabiltiy. I would imagine we will see a high number of play action while the young guys get their rythm.
