Gravatar I would have been more surprised had he NOT gotten hurt! Starting to look like ole DJ only wants to play when he FEELS like it...Glad he's someone else's problem now.

Gravatar I am actually a little bummed out. I really like Hackett....no I do not miss his injuries...but I really liked him (like I think most of us did). So I wish him the best over in Carolina, except for when the Panthers play our Hawks.

I hope he can stay healthy and make a good career for himself.

Gravatar hmmmm.... swelling of the knee? what are some possible causes??

Gravatar I wish DJ no ill will, but I think it's looking like the FO knew what they were doing relative to Hackett.

The knee swelling could be nothing, but it sure doesn't sound good, does it?

Gravatar Okay Mike, here is the debate a buddy and I were having. At this point, who would you rather have? Hackett or Branch? I think the injuries are a wash with both of them and since DJ became a starter he was an impact player, also at a lower price. What are your thoughts?

Gravatar Swelling of the knee. That means there is scar tissue there. Unless he bruised it during OTA's...

Too bad; Hackett is a good receiver.

At least he is no longer a Hawk...

Gravatar Thats a great debate Evan...

If you are looking for height over the DB's, I would go with Hack's 6'2 over Deion's 5'9

Going for experience, Deion has been there, done that and has Super Bowl experience. But Hackett is young and has a lot left in him. But also, Deion himself is relatively young at 28.

Looking at the stats career wise they both average near the same, 13.1 to 13.3 in favor of DJ. Averages per game are right around 10 more per contest for Branch.

Both have been injury prone, so that's a wash obviously.

In my opinion (making the assumption both will play the same amount of time and spend approximately the same amount of time on the DL) I would much rather have DJ than Deion. Comtract wise Deion has not earned what he has been paid, DJ will probably always be worth more when he's on the field than teams are willing to pay an injury prone receiver so he will fit better under the cap for us. He is young, he will have more years to contribute than Deion. He is taller, and in the NFL it's nice for a QB to be able to throw over the top of a CB instead of needing a perfect throw every time.

But as I contemplate this, when Deion has been on the field consistently, he has been dangerous.

Tough call, but in my opinion DJ is my choice. But the front office is there for a reason and I am not. So if it's like every other decision (almost every) they've made it will work out in our favor.

Go Hawks!

Greg

Gravatar If you watched the Rams game on NFL net the other day, it wouldn't be a debate. Both Hackett and Branch played in that game. Although Hackett got injured again, Branch tore them up in the second half making several big downfield catches and a TD.

Branch for me. He'll be back. He wasn't considered injury prone in NE although he did miss 7 games in 2004. Even so, he finished third on the team in receptions that year and he led all NFL receivers in the playoffs with 16 receptions for 264 yards. He played his first year here just fine getting injured in his second season with Seattle. That gives him two seasons out of 6 that he was injured. How does that make him injury prone? That's pretty normal for a receiver who gets hit all the time. Jackson, Engram and Hackett have all been injured for significant periods of time while with Seattle. Name the last Seattle receiver to play more than two or three years without being injured along the way for a few games. You're always seeing receivers injured. Hack has been injured every year he's played significant minutes.

Branch has been a SB MVP and showed Pro Bowl potential before he was hurt last season and should come back to be productive again since he's only been injured one year in his career. D.J. is an annual injury waiting to happen and has a long ways to go to get to a Super Bowl MVP status.

Gravatar I would have to take Branch as well. If, actually when, we get to the Superbowl again, it is going to feel real nice to know we have a SB MVP who can get it done in the big game.

My other example would be the KC game in 06', where Branch chased down the DB and stripped him, almost allowing the Hawks to steal a road game against a playoff team while playing our back up QB

Gravatar Michael that was not a DB it was Kansas City defensive end Jared Allen that he striped the ball from after he thought he was a DB and tried to return the ball.

Gravatar Good points, but does anyone remember the game against Tampa last year? Branch 0 catches, 0 yards, and 0 tds? He came back the next week and had a great game at AZ but he played a lot like Ryan Howard, either 4 strikeouts or 2 homeruns in a game.

Gravatar To add Mike, your big game theory, he was playing with one of the best big game QBs in NFL history, he has had what 4 big playoff games with us, or 3 and one quarter and he hasn't done anything. Doug Williams was a SB MVP and that didn't get him anything after they crushed the Donkeys.

Gravatar Check that, Branch didn't play in the Washington game last year either, Hackett went off for 101 and a TD in that game.

Gravatar I am sick unto death of hearing what Branch did in New England. Joe Namath was super bowl MVP, but we sure as hell arent gonna get him to play qb. What have you done for me lately?

Branch has had maybe 7 good games in two full seasons with Seattle. He has consistently shown he is unable to make receptions in traffic, is unable to catch anything unless wide open, and is generally unable to do anything unless another wr opposite him has caught fire and taken the double coverage.

He cant run a quick slant against bump and run coverage--either he is knocked off his route or has the ball stripped (Burly has the same problem). He cant jump, and Hass has never been able to put the ball on the numbers unless its a curl route.

Branch looked pretty good for about a month last season, but then got injured. he has missed half of the last two seasons. That, folks, is injury prone.

Branch is not a number 1, do-anything wr. He is extremely limited by his size, and since Hass is no Brady, the problem is exacerbated.

Branch may turn out to be a fine wr, but he will never get more than 1200 yards recieving--he may never crack 1,000. And he will never be a true number 1 wr. So why are we paying him like he's Chad Johnson?! Oh, that's right--cause Timmay hated D-Jack, and was arrogantly trying to prove that tiny guys are the best. That worked out well, didnt it?

Gravatar Djack sucked dropped too many balls, wouldn't go over the middle... so good he lasted one year in San Fran. But he built a great rapport with Hass. Branch hasn't had an off season to work with Hass. Last year he got married in June before the season and the year before that we got him 4 games in. Hass and Branch need to get their timing down like Bobby and he have. Burleson and Matt were much better last year i know partly because of the broken finger but i expect a big year from Nate in his 3rd season in Holmgrens offense. I'm more concerned at tightend and with obamanu or Taylor
