Gravatar just got from disneyland. Feet are barking up a storm.
Really glad they didn't PUP Branch. Now he just has to play effectively before week six for it to be successful.

Thought Adams will make it, but it sounds like somebody would pick him up.

Gravatar The only bad thing about keeping both kickers for week 1...

What if some team with a so-so kicker situation has that player totally suck in week 1. They may release their bubble kicker if he goes 1-3 or 0-2 and then pick up Coutu for their week 2.

Oh well... I don't really like kickers who can't consistently get the ball in the end zone on kick-offs anyways.

On the flip side, kickers who miss their FGs on a regular basis piss me off too.

Gravatar Of course, they could do that anyway if he were on our PS.

I'm stupid sometimes! You can save the "Most of the time" or "All of the time" jokes too

Gravatar Why the hell can't the consistently get the ball in the end zone guy make his FGs on a regular basis? That's my stupid question!

Gravatar I was just noticing... every single one of our drafted players made the 53 man roster with the exception of T. Schmitt for injury reasons that were not recognized before camp started. Koodos to our scouts! All quality young men who will add to the team + a couple real good choices of rookie free agents with the Hawthorne signing, Jamar Adams (hopefully on the practice squad) and Bumpus (likewise, PS).

I don't know how well other teams do but, this just seems pretty impressive to me. I mean, most of these guys look to contribute almost immediately. Granted, we're going to need it with our injuries but still, this seems pretty cool.

Am I just wearing SeaHawk Blue or is this a pretty common thing?

Gravatar We're all stupid sometimes, Bobby. Your mistake wasn't as bad as the one I made yesterday, confusing kickoffs with punts and talking about fair-catching a kickoff.

OTOH, a kicker who could force a fair catch on a kickoff would be something, wouldn't he?

Besides Coutu, who else do we think gets cut after the first game? Will it be Atkins, or is Forsett still on the bubble?

Gravatar galigo, that was the question I was trying to answer when I made my stupid comment about fair catches.

The part of my answer that I still think was non-stupid was that Mare's field goals might have the distance, but not the accuracy that Coutu's do. IOW, Mare might be able to kick them longer but not straighter. Does that make sense?

Gravatar mare only missed 1 FG of 45 yards if i remember right. so i am not too worried about his accuracy overall knowing that about 40% of the time there will be no runbacks of kickoffs.

Gravatar SueHawk...you are right. this is very rare as far as i know that this many drafted players make the team after preseason cuts.

Gravatar Could they be thinking of slipping forsett into the PS after week 1 also?

Gravatar The more I think about it, I think we're going to see Nate back there for punt returns. He doesn't drop the ball, and we really shouldn't have somebody with no experience back there giving the ball to the other team in scoring position.

I think Nate simply has to be back there. Anything else is bad.

Gravatar Both Mare and Brandon Coutu made Seattle's 53-man roster, but Mare will only kick off, the Associated Press reports.

Looks like they both will stick, even after week one.

Gravatar Hey, good work as always Micheal. I look at the blog everyday, but don't always write anything. The cuts were spot on by Mike, I must say.
Okay, I am going to beat on a really old and dead horse: Getting Andy Studebaker to dress in blue and neon.
I think we could snatch him from the PS of the Eagles. I have been keeping up on him, and he really should've been kept on the team, he was truly making plays, but their plan is to give him a year to ripen on the PS. We need someone else on the practice squad aside from Sartz. Studebaker would be a great LB/DE combo to come in and help in practice and maybe give himself a shot next year.
Either way, I see us brining in another LB, Starz is not our man. Who? You tell me.

Gravatar Kind of like Dave Kingman or Rob Deer in MLB. Those guys would hit a lot of HRs but suck at batting AVE.

Gravatar Lordtd.... I am thinking that as well. Got to be Burleson right? He is just as likely to get hurt on a punt return as he is catching a pass. He is just SO DAMN GOOD at returning punts. Gotta keep him back there. You know DeHaven is down!

Gravatar Nate did not always make the best decisions returning the ball. I love him and want him doing it, but don't forget that Mike had to put Bobby out there if it would land inside the 20 because Nate made costly mistakes.
Still not sure who will be returning kicks but I guess it will be J-Force early on and depending how he does and when Neon and Mr. 3rd down return we might get Nate back there, as long as he isn't catching the ball inside the 10

Gravatar what really pisses me off is that Rocky gets a 1 game suspension for the same guilty plea of Marshawn (Hit and Run) Lynch. Now instead of Lynch missing the game, Rocky is. Am I missing something?

Gravatar Hate to see it, but Hass is ranked the 9th best QB at Yahoo. Right behind Bid Ben and Derek "One year under my belt" Anderson. Of course, they also have Aaron Rodgers ranked 15th and he hasn't even started a game yet. Still pissed about the No Respect...I guess it's hard to let that go.

On a different note, I noticed our TEs were getting a few snaps as the slot receivers. Putzier and Carlson have been good at catching and blocking downfield which makes the offense slightly less predictable.

Gravatar Havik, I don't know if you're joking, but Rocky's penalty is in the "personal conduct" rules covering domestic violence. He was seen beating his girl friend in public.

Not exactly the same thing as a hit-and-run and I think that he got off as it was his first offense. This was Rocky's second.

I think that Rocky's penalty was justified and is treated fairly by the NFL.

Gravatar I think Obomanu's injury made it easy not to PUP Branch. That leaves Bumpus going to the PS, and he should make it. If it was Payne, less likely, with Zorn in WA, and therefore more likely to PUP Branch to keep Payne (or Kent/Obomanu/Taylor) active so no one else could pick them up.

Still don't know about Adams, and his liklihood of being picked up. From what I hear, we would like to keep him around.

Gravatar week one has been troublesome for Holmgren teams for quite some time. He never seems to have the team ready for the season. I don't know if it is how he practices the guys leading up to week 1 or what, but the team always seems flat in the first game ... sometimes just in the first half. Road games seem to be worse. So, week one on the road without Branch, Engram, Bernard, Babs and Obamonu is a big worry.

Gravatar If preseason is any indicator, the Bills and Miami are playing very good defense, as in:

Miami: 3rd passing, 5th rushing
Bills: 12th passing, 7th rushing
Hawks: 17th passing, 11th rushing

I'm not implying this carry over into regular season as is, just a good indicator that these defenses are playing solid at this point. Neither to be taken likely.

Gravatar err, taken lightly...

and for offense:

Hawks: 2nd passing, 2nd rushing
Miami: 26th passing, 14th rushing
Bills: 30th passing, 18th rushing

Our D shold do wonders for the Bills, even w/ the missing folks. Likely, we will render them 1 dimensional and bloat our run stop stats accordingly.

Good field position (Mare kickoffs) and early passing will help make our 2nd half run game effective and keep the score lop-sided.

This game should be about special teams and setting a fast pace on offense. W/ the QB and the passing game so bad for the bills, we could probaby confuse the QB w/out much blitzing. Should be easy to keep the offense desperate.

Miami, well lets see how they develope ofer the year. I still believe they can win their division, especially w/ an unhealthy Brady. The Pats haven't revealed their cards yet, though.

Gravatar I think with a rusty Hasselbeck, new WRs and a revitalized running game, you're going to see a much stronger emphasis on ball control, grind em out ground game in the early part of the season.

Gravatar Hey guys, I can't really think of a better way to ask then on here since there isn't a forum up *yet on addicts.com but I was wondering if anyone played madden. I'm not that good but I just got 08/09 and am looking to do some xbox live action.
