I just cant see him really making a team and being able to contribute. I feel he should retire.
I think Mark Schlereth said it best, he is not a 3rd down back, hes not even a first or second down back because he is a one dimensional player. He cant catch the ball and he is really not interested in blocking as we all know to well.
I feel that he is not going to upgrade ANY team in the league. Plus, what is a team willing to pay a guy who is north of 30, and has no quickness or speed left? I think it would have to be afor a league minimum deal for a veteran?
He has been able to hide in our offense and handle the load because of our online and his vision and quickness. We all wondered what happened to our screen game and it never really got noticed because of the amount of TD's and Yds he was getting.
I think it will be an unbelievable year for Julius Jones in this offense.....when Frank HUghes says it is really different to see him hit holes with speed and purpose, I start to salivate for a live look at this guy!!!
I just cant for the life of me feel that he will make ANY team in this league and actually contribute to an offense.
I will say that if he makes a team....he will not even come close to 500 yds rushing and will probably not even get more than 2 touchdowns!!

Shaun was a pretty decent reciever out of the backfield his first couple seasons. He still dropped a lot of passes, but not as many as in later years.
And his blitz-pickup was pretty decent in '05 and in '06 as well untill he got hurt. Last season he was doing fine until the injuries...then everything went to hell.
Bottom line, Shaun CAN catch, he's just not super-skilled at it. He's no Roger Craig or Ricky Watters. And without a broken wrist, with a little effort and some decent coaching, Shaun should be able to improve his blocking...
The only thing that effort and coaching cant change is speed, and Shaun may have lost too much of that.
I think Cincy would be lucky to get him. New Orleans too. Deuce or no deuce, it wont hurt to give him a shot for the league min.

That brings up a good question STTBM. Will Shaun accept a league minimum deal? It will be interesting to see.

The idea that Shaun can suddenly "learn" to block is silly. He's been in the league for 8 years now, if he hasn't learned it yet, it isn't going to happen.
Same with his receiving skills. Holmgren specifically focused on this in training camp last year, and Shaun came right out of the gate dropping passes.
I don't think he will sign anywhere soon. I predict he'll go unsigned through training camp, and a few weeks into the season some team will have their starting RB hurt and will sign him to see if he can help.
It'll be like when Franco Harris came to the Hawks.

I wish 37 would just retire so he could end his carrer as a Hawk. Goin anywhere else is just goin to continue to damage his legacy.

Shaun was ok at blocking for a couple years--he actually was pretty underrated. Last year he flat couldnt due to the wrist. Ever tried to drive a non-power steering car with a broken wrist? blocking has to be worse. You just cant do it well.
While Shaun was no Mack Strong, he wasnt THAT bad at blitz-pickup in 05...
Like I said, his biggest issue is that he may have lost his speed. he badly needs a new RB coach to make him hit holes a little quicker and to torment him into using that 220 lb body to smash people. It could give him another couple 1,000 yard seasons...but youre right: who knows if he will take league min, and I dont think he will ever run tough for 16 games straight--dude wants to walk when he's 60.

SlaveTo The Business Man seems to think that Shaun is coachable at this point? The guy has been in the league for 8 years and has had arguably one of the BEST coaching staffs in the league.
At this point in his career, he is what he is, and I believe he is beond coaching.....with Shaun its about "want to", not coaching. You cant coach hitting a hole harder, or ramming people. Either you have that or you dont.
Plus!, where have you been? Every year Holmy has talked about Shauna hitting the holes harder and ramming it in there, with, you guessed it, very little results from that!!!!
Anyway, lets put this to rest, I can go on about him anylonger.

I remember a long time ago when embroiled in a starting battle at tailback my sophmore year, this other guy was reaaaaally slow, but could block better than me.
Guess who started the first game?
Wasn't me...
