i saw Forsett run for 120 yards against the Huskies last year, and though their defense wasn't exactly porous, the kid can freakin' RUN.

So here is a question, does it change the status of a draftee if they've been signed? I guess I'm wondering if this makes Forsett any more secure to make the team? Is any of this 4 year money guaranteed so that he'll get it if he gets cut? All questions from a rookie like me.

No, they get a deal now, if they don't make the team, they get cut, then sent through waivers where any team can claim him and his contract. After that, he is a free agent and can sign anywhere, including the practice squad, which has a set salary associated with it. Like $2000 a month or something. Not very much. But at anytime he can be brought up or signed by another team at which point he starts receiving the rookie minimum.

I think this kid has a shot at making the team. He will have to prove he can be a return guy.

I am a little surprised. I didn't think he would make it. He must have done something special in the mini-camps.

Steve,
All draft picks get signed prior to camp. Not all draft picks make the team.
Usually only Picks in rounds 1-3 are guaranteed to make the squad. Rounds 4 through 7 not so much. More likely he's practice squad bound.

Not that this matters much, just an FYI:
Section 3. Salary: Minimum salary for a practice squad player shall be $4,700 per week for the 2006-07 League Years, $5,200 per week for the 2008-10 League Years and the 2011 League Year if it is an Uncapped Year, and $5,700 per week for the 2011 League Year if it is a Capped Year and the 2012 League Year, including postseason weeks in which his Club is in the playoffs.

I hope Justin makes the roster. I see the RB position as a unique one. Mo Mo and JJ are very similar backs in their playing style. That can be good and bad. The good is that the offense doesn't skip a beat when you have to substitute one for the other. The bad is that there's no change of pace guy. If the defense stops what one does, then it's going to stop the other. That's where the change of pace guy comes in handy - keeps the opposing defense on their toes. I like Leonard Weaver in this role, but it seems that it's been decided that he won't be touching the ball much.
I'm interested in seeing what the 53-man roster looks like. There's a lot of questions to be answered.....

I think Justin could be an assett to the team down the road but alas with Duckett signed with a nice bonus, he's probably going to have to clear waivers to stay with us because our only open spot is going to be on the PS.
If he continues to have a good showing into training camp, it's highly likely another team without too many good defensive linemen to be able to keep an extra RB like the situation the Seahawks are in will have a spot for a good looking RB prospect and he'll be making us wish we'd kept him while he's making big plays for someone else in a year or two.
I hope Duckett becomes worth it to us this year because he's not going to be a long time solution for us and it really pains me to see us cut young prospects who should be the backbone of our team in the future for aging veterans who are stopgap solutions to current problems. I'm not sure what problem Duckett is solving for us anymore other that to justify the signing bonus since we drafted Schmitt as our backup FB.
I suppose I could be positive about such things and say that we're making good progress as a team when we're releasing players that other teams snap up and use during the regular season. It shows our team has good talent to be able to cut such players. Seattle is a team that other teams probably watch more closely now to see who they're cutting free since we do have good depth at most positions. I do understand the reality of that scenario.
I just hope as I said earlier that if we keep Duckett and end up losing Forsett, Duckett ends up showing us the beef and often.

Have to keep a little prespective here too though...every team blog is writing about some late round draft picked who they liked then fell in love with after thier team picked in the draft. They all want the team to cut some dead weight or admit another guy was a bad signing and keep the rookie. And once in a blue moon a late rounder will turn into a solid play or even rarer a stud and there will be the guys saying I told you all along. We have several late round picks we are all high on currently on the roster (see WR) but what have they actually done up to this point? And of the 3 stats say maybee one ends up being a solid contributor on the team while the other two are out of the league.
TJ was very good in college and was picked in the first round. And while Holmy says he doesnt know how he will fit in I seriously doubt he and Jedi TR just threw some money at him without some pretty good conversations. They knew what they were getting with TJ and they wanted him and at the price they paid him. How many free agents has TR brought in that didnt meet expectations (besides Pollard?) Not a ton.
I hope Justin makes it and is the second coming of Curt Warner with good knees but every other team passed on him until the late rounds just like the Hawks did. I will only jump on his band wagon if he is head and shoulder above TJ or others when they put the pads on.
