Seahawk Addicts

Gravatar I find it hard to believe that no one voted for Tatupu. Not even the Eagles after he ran the recievers routes FOR them, and picked three passes?!

Whatever, Lofa is the best since Singletary in his prime.

Russell may be smart, but he sometimes whiffs on open-field tackles. I think hes pretty good, but hes not really All-Pro material.

Harrison bugs me, as does Vrabel. Ive seen both of them do things that have no place on the field of sport. I especially loathe the fact that Vrabel got a mico-size fine for gouging an eye because hes a Pat, and I really hate hearing Harrison glibly explain his antics as "I just play". No you dont, and everyone knows it. If you just played, you wouldnt be voted Dirtiest Player by your peers year in, year out!

Gravatar Gonzo, we're in Seattle, the witness protection program of the NFL.

In the meantime, let them keep writing about everyone else, and we'll keep winning games.

Gravatar I would put a certain guy from the Cowboys named Williams as the dirtiest, that horse collar thing is the most dangerous tackle in the league and he seems to do it every game!!

Gravatar Don't short change Hamlin and all of his personel foul.

Gravatar Hey, I've got twenty (20) personal fowl. Not sure if that means I make the list, but it does mean I don't have to buy eggs often.

Gravatar I'm with STTB all the way on his comments. Lofa is as saavy a player as is out there, and he doesn't get even a single vote? Amazing, that.

BTW, is there a vote for the dirtiest coach? I guess it wasn't needed because the answer is so obvious.

Gravatar I agree that Lofa should have been noticed, but in general safeties are considered the QBS of the defense and stereotypically are players who get by on brains instead of brawn. That may be the reason

Gravatar They left off two of the smartest players in the league, Urlacher and Tatupu. When either of them is on the field the whole team benifits from their leadership.

Was Hines Ward on the dirty player list? He is definitly one of the dirtiest players in the league, probably the dirtiest offensive player. I really hate players like Harrison, and Ward. I actually find myself hoping they get hurt during play.

Gravatar I hope Ward tears his ACL. He's a dirty player with an overrated QB. I hate the Stealers more and more with each passing season, and I'm probably have angst about XL for a very long time to come.

Gravatar I'm probably going to* have angst, that is. I can't type tonight. Go me!

Gravatar I agree Gonzo about big ben shitzleberger being overrated, he rides the running game and cannot shoulder his team like a real QB.

On a side note I think Ward does not have an ACL. I think thats why he slipped so far down in his draft. I guess I could settle for a broken leg or arm though.

Gravatar Since Holmgren took over the Seahawks, he's been preaching no fouls. Don't hurt your own chances. Now, his teams committ the lowest number of fouls in the league or very close to it every year.

I've got two things to say about that.

1) that's one of the reasons it was absurd that those numerous fouls called in the Super Bowl were all valid. Seattle didn't just become a flagrant fouling team overnight. They were know for playing a clean game...... until they met the Pittsburgh refs.

2) That's another of the untalked about reasons that Seattle's been the NFC West Champs for 4 years now and one that most sports writers don't even know about. Seattle doesn't hurt themselves by making mistakes. You have to beat this team with your on field play. They aren't going to help you do it.

Gravatar Great insight Billt--I agree completely, just never thought of it from that angle.

Gravatar STTBM,

I think there are a lot of little details that Holmgren pays attention to that we can lump together as intangibles but they are actually just making sure that you don't assist your opponent in beating your butt. Besides his thing about keeping the fouls to a minimum, I know for example that he assigns a person to be responsible for keeping the players and coaches in the box on the sidelines during a game so they don't draw a penalty. He also has some offensive minded people besides Haskell watching the other team's defense during a game and they are all invited to grab his ear if they see something that could lead to a big play because of a tendancy they've observed or anything he may not have noticed. A lot of coaches don't want to be bothered except by his coordinators during a game but Holmgren delegates as well as any coach I've ever seen and always will use any help he can get.

That's one of the things I always hear about Holmgren when others talk about him is that he's very detail oriented. It's that attention to small details that sums up to be a big advantage on game day when the Seahawks even though not as talented on paper as some teams they face make fewer mistakes and ultimately prevail because of playing error free football.

This is one of the big things I hope we don't lose when Mora takes over. Even with the same players, if that level of detail is not adhered to, we could find we're not playing as well even with the same players. Hopefully, that where Mora's education under Holmgren will pay off by his noticing that the Seahawks don't beat themselves and the reasons for that fact. If he immediately starts averaging more penalities than Holmgren did, that will be an indicator to me that we could be in for some rough weather. Well, I'm not going to worry about that yet. We've got a year of Holmgren football left and I'm going to enjoy it to the max.
