Has Mel Kiper ever been right about the Seahawks? He could have SWORN we were going WR in the first round.
I'm sorry, but when you look at the facts, who's the bigger football expert? Tim Ruskell or Mel Kiper?
I don't ever give any type of merit to his opinions and am a little questionable on why everyone backs him up so much.
I thought we did great on draft day! For some reason, I'm real excited about drafting Red Bryant...I think he will be a HUGE contributor.

Kiper is kind of annoying at times but I do respect his work. It amazes me that no matter how obscure the player Mel always can speak to him and not like he is reading off a tele-prompter. He actually scouts and retains tons of information. Mel's steel trap mind and knack for remembering stuff reminds me of a baseball guy who can rattle off batting averages from a decade ago.
Some one should tell him that the self-tinting glasses he wears were never really in style even though he insists on wearing them. Its almost like he was the guy who used to wear sunglasses indoors till someone kicked the crap out of him but he still thinks its a good idea and thus discovered this loop hole.

I don't respect him so much for his opinions, I respect him because he saw something in the NFL draft that no one else did, and when he was kid no less. Because of him, Draft Speculation is a huge industry. He was the pioneer. And he has heard criticism from every angle for years on years, and he stuck at it.

The only problem with Kiper is, at this point in his career at least, he seems to put more stock in his own grades and opinions than things he may have learned from actual team officials. The segment on the first day when he was staring down the camera while debating with McShay was hilarious.

Who cares about these guys grading our draft anyway? When I hear some jerk say that the Seahawks didn't draft a WR in the first two rounds and giving us a "D" grade, I'm most likely looking at a guys who looked at the fact that we lost Hackett in free agency and maybe is margainlly aware that Branch is coming off surgery so he knows all he needs to know to grade our draft. If we picked up WR fo fix that situation, we did good otherwise, we pooched it. That guy wouldn't be aware of the young receivers we have coming up or that our coaching staff has a lot of faith in their ability to come in and pick up the slack.
Those guys aren't at all aware of our real needs or that we really fixed a lot of problems that we've had over the last two seasons in this draft and though free agency. Outside of NW sports writers and analysts, very few of those prognosticators have any in depth knowledge of the players, coaches, and injuries that may require some kind of remedy to be made through the draft or free agency. They have just the most superficial knowledge that may have been gained through rumor, casual conversation with other unknowing sources or one line injury reports.
Guys like John Clayton, Hugh Millen, Rob Rang, Mike Sando, and Brock Huard to name a few can give you reliable information on the Seahawks and their needs and give a draft grade that is reliably based on fact but get outside the NW and don't expect to get anyone who can give you an assessment that is worth beans. Most of the national draft guru's don't have a clue about Seattle. Their mocks show it and their draft grades afterward show it.
This year the Seahawks scored at least a "B" and I think the review after three years will move that firmly to an "A". Personally, I give them the "A" right now. They didn't solve their problems in the exact manner many of us thought they would but an analysis of where they're at right now will reveal that they took care of the most pressing needs and right now have no real holes on the team. I think Ruskell has a few tweaks to still make and he will before we're ready to start playing for real.
