I wouldn't mind seeing Shaun in a Bears uniform. Not a fan of the team or anything, but at least we wouldn't have to worry about competing against him in the playoffs. I know he is not as good as he used to be, but he may have a giant game against the Hawks... You never know!
Whether or not this will even happen is up in the air still, but there isn't much out there for him, which is too bad.

Of course, I am the only person that feels this way, but I will NEVER understand why NFL teams do not buy a Town Car and hire two drivers to pick these guys up 24x7. It would be a cheap investment.
Then again, the guy in question wasn't even in Chicago at the time, right?

Great analysis, as usual Michael. I don't know that the Bears would cut Ced and sign Shaun, but I could see them bringing him in to compete regardless of Benson.
After two years living in Chicago, I think Shaun deserves better. Almost everyone there is just a huge fairweather fan, and not very good fans at that. I swear, I knew more about the Bears than the people decked out in Ditka sweaters.

It's not just the BUI, and the now accused DUI. He was also ticketed for driving 75 in a 45 m.p.h work zone in Chicago a couple of months back. Seems like a complete disregard for laws, or the rules don't apply to him sort of additude.
And Chris you are spot on about Bears fans. Most fair weather fans I know, before the Super bowl run you never saw anyone supporting the team. The year they went to the show they all dug out the 80's era gear and were prading around like peacocks.

You never know, the Bills may beat them to him, Lynch is in some deep dookie too I think. SA will catch on somewhere because football players are stupid.

Beautifully done.
That is what I like so much about this site: intelligent opinions from you and most of the readers.
The fact that you go out on a limb early and often, and with good reason, makes the boring things exciting and when you are right you look darn smart.
Keep it up.

Benson sure sounds like an assclown candidate to me.

Chicago was my initial thought for a landing spot for Alexander, even before all of this stuff with Benson. Just based on the Bears lack of trust in Benson combind with his attitude. Now add this and it could make it more of a sweet spot.
However, I still think my second look at SA landing spots holds his best chances: Green Bay and NYJ. They need depth and I really don't think most teams consider SA starter quality, but rather some potentially decent insurance that they hope doesn't really have to play, but also hope that he may have some spark in him that gets them something better than what they have.
The other thing to consider when these sweet RB openings occur is that SA is not the best back available. He has between zero and two years left in him and he can't pass block, catch or push the pile. Kevin Jones is the top FA RB out there and Lamont Jordan is probably about on equal ground with SA in the view of most teams.

Very intersting points JoeMCK. I didn't think of K Jones or Lamont Jordan. Although I do think that there is something to be said for Shauns career achievements and if that makes him more qualified to be a mentor.
In Chi, they have their back of the future in Forte, and may be looking a player to take on a different role, rather than just competing to take away playing time from Forte.
Forte is also an excellent receiver, so he would compliment SA very well.

I hope those of you who slammed "fair-weather" Chicago fans were NOT among the losers who booed Shaun last year. From the time I was in high school, I never understood people who jumped on their own team when things weren't going right. Are you a fan or not? Do you want your team to win or not? Could you do better? I know, it's a free country, and your ticket price buys you the right to cheer or boo. But I always thought of Seattle as a much classier city than Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati -- and even NY or Philly, in terms of sports fans. I wish Shaun all the best and hope he gains 1,400 yards this year.

Evan, I consider your "football players are stupid" comment a gross generalization. Certainly, relying on the basic tenant of social learning theory, you would anticipate Mr. Benson would learn from similar misfortunes of peers. Furthermore, you’d expect him to learn from his previous mistakes and not continually engage in the illicit behaviors. However, it appears evident that Mr. Benson has a problem, if not an addiction. Finally, there are many different types of intelligence, and many “brilliant” individuals exercise exceptionally poor judgment (especially when drugs or alcohol are involved). Evan, to say that "football players are stupid" based on the actions of a limited sample is an erroneous miscalculation.

I don't see Alexander landing in Chicago. They need a tough strait up the gut runner who can get the first down and Shaun is not that guy anymore.

Forget Kevin Jones, he tore up his knee at the end of last season. Why do you think Detroit released its most productive back - it's not like they have a good replacement for KJ.

Can't wait to see if ANY team offers him a contract and what that contract pays. Remember he would not accept a pay cut here...

Oh, yea ... forgot to mention Travis Henry as a better physical option, although he has other downsides in player conduct where SA has strength.
