Maybe we want to carry two Punters on the roster too, so that the two kickers don't feel too special.

Gravatar I hope you're right, Michael, about the team just wanting to keep up with available players.

I hope this isn't an indicator of concern about Plack's health.

Gravatar One thing I've never quite understood is why teams need to "tryout" a punter or a kicker. A face-to-face interview sure, but what are you going to learn by watching him kick a few balls on the practice field? There's a recording of every kick he's ever done, maybe even all the way back to high school, and you could tivo through all of them in two hours.

Gravatar Tape is past tense. You have to make sure there isn't something wrong w/ the guy. Never hurts to look at their mechanics close up, oh - and check their back. Always a bummer when you find out a guy you signed had a bad back all along.

Gravatar Plack looked awful on Friday. He had one decent punt and 2 very bad ones and that's been his record of late.

They should have kept Hodges.

Gravatar Reading the comments on Frost, I'm wondering why we even bother. Plack messed up, for sure, but I'll give him a little slack just because it was one of his first tries in game situations this year and, last year, he was - supposedly - working on a new technique. That's not to say I feel confident. Maybe Coutu can learn to punt, eh?!

Gravatar Just a thought but the Steelers released two pretty decent punt returners. Neither one is a Devin Hester/Josh Cribbs/Nate Burleson type PR but they both get the job done. Oh by the way, their names are Eddie Drummond (who was great but is past his prime) and Willie Reid. Willie is also an almost average WR. I really thought he was going to be Pittsburgh's number 4 reciever. I was shocked by that cut. Needless to say, I would prefer to have Reid returning kicks than who we have in our current situation.

Gravatar I like Plack's accuracy but I think he has a weak leg. I really wish we kept Hodges.

Gravatar GnarlyHawk, obviously you're going to give him a physical before you sign him, what I'm saying is that a few kicks on the practice field tells you little about how he is going to perform in real games and in fact has the potential to be very misleading. Suppose he booms the piss out of a few balls on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, but in real games he's not really that good? I mean, they'd probably say something like, we want to know how he fits in with our scheme, blah blah blah, but the difference between the punting schemes of the 32 teams can probably be measured in nanometers, and the mere fact that he's already been in the league means he has the minimal adaptability required. But hey, if they want to spend time watching some guy in sweats punt a few balls it's their prerogative.

Gravatar Any guy that fans refer to as Chokey McShank isn't someone I'd prefer to have on our team. Frost hasn't performed well for a while now.

Given my druthers, I'd rather have Hodges, as well. The devil you know, and all that.....

Gravatar Relax guys, fatso will be fine...

Gravatar Hodges punted well when he didn't have his kicks blocked...

Gravatar no worry my fellow fans according to nfl.com frost is gettin signed by the pack. i think we are fine where we are our offense is running pretty good and our defense is great so we should be ok. go hawks
