By my count, they cut/IRed 20 players, bringing the 75 to 55. I was just kidding before - we don't get to keep 55. Do the suspensions count against the 53, or not?
Boy I hope that Adams and Bumpus make it through to our practice squad. I think they will both be starters in this league eventually!

Due to the suspensions they don't have to cut 2 more players until after week 1....
The Suspended players do not count, they are on the suspended list, so that is how you get down to 53.

Thanks for clearing that up. And the fact that we get to keep two "extra" through week one, may allow us to slip two extra through to the practice squads, since teams will be pretty much set by the time we waive these guys
While it will be harder to win without Babs and Bernard, it will be nice to have another chance to sort out the kicking situation.
I would think Bumpus will make it to the PS. With all the negative publicity about Seattle receivers, I don't suppose teams are waiting for our WR cuts. And Zorn doesn't know Bumpus, right? He probably would have snatched Payne.
Don't know about Adams. Again, he will probably make it. I guess we'll see.
If we are not required to get down to 53 until after the first week, can we also still wait on the decision to PUP Branch?
If we can PUP Branch after week 1, would he still be out through week 6? or would the league add an additional week?
This would allow the team to cut one of the kickers and PUP Branch as one of our two roster moves to get to 53.
Of course, this is if the team feels it necessary.
I don't see how Mare doesn't make it. Those touchbacks are awesome for our coverage team, and it appears as if he is recovered from what was bothering him last year. And he is experienced. Plus, Coutu qualifies for the PS, whereas Mare doesn't.
Better chance of getting Coutu to the PS after week one than right now. That is probably the thinking.
so, how does keeping 2 kickers for the first game help decide the battle?...this game will count, if you have them both you have to use mare for kickoffs and coutu for field goals. The only thing I can think is that it'll help them get coutu to the PS....or they're going to keep 'em both.
Why would we want to PUP Branch when there's a possibility we have him at practice on Monday? Even with caution and shaking off rust, we should have him by week 2, 3 at worst. Make no mistake... we need the veterans and if we can get both Branch and Engram in 3 weeks, we'll be much the better for it. Let's not wait 6 or 7 weeks on Branch when we can get him back sooner.

yup, if they were going to PUP branch they would have, and not let Bumpus have a chance to get picked up. That decision is made.
PUPing Branch makes no sense to me. We need the vet's back, with all their experience, ASAP. Branch is supposed to be practicing next week which means, even with caution and time to shake off rust, he should be ready to go by week 2 or 3. Why wait 'til week 6? That's nuts!
If Branch were to be PUP'd he wouldn't have been back till week 8. If they keep him active, they can hold him out till week 5 and only miss 3 games because of our bye week.. But that all depends on us winning

And I agree with the discussion RE: Coutu. I think the decision has been made to keep Mare but, waiting until after week 1 for Coutu to be put on waivers gives us a better chance of keeping him around
and if they PUP him he doesn't get to practice with the team until then either... it's not going to happen
may give an extra week to decide if forsett makes the team too.
