Sure. Some lesser theories maybe. But the people who suspect the ACAPCWOVCCAOE sect saw nothing in the latest issue to contradict that line of thought.

In regard to Madrox's personality problems, that idea was first explored in the legendary "Fallen Angels" limited series. Probably not your cup of tea, but it did have the merit of featuring Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur. Anyway, Madrox came under the influence of a mutant with the power to enhance the powers of other mutants. This caused one, and then later two, of his dupes to refuse to reform with him.
Owing, no doubt, to the lack of Madrox backstory, Peter David played off some of those ideas in X-Factor, having one of the refusenik dupes join up with a team of villains called the Nasty Boys. In the process, Peter David managed to write the only known coherant story featuring Mister Sinister.
