True story - my usual comic shop proprieter asked me why I wasn't buying NEW AVENGERS # 1. After stating that I thought Dissassembled was, well, sucky, I was strongly encouraged to purchase NA # 1. My thoughts:

1) Didn't they just do a similar storyline in OUTSIDERS?

2) The last time I enjoyed anything named NEW AVENGERS it starred Patrick McNee, and

3) I'm seriously considering switching comic stores.

Seriously.

I picked up the Mage hard cover. Having been of highly impressionable age when the series ran originally and no longer having these issues handy I forked over the chunk of change required to read this again here, in this format. The story is as enjoyable as I remember it. The art and the packaging suffer though. Several pages are pixelated. Text seems to be missing from word balloons making the story a little choppy here and there. The book would have benefited from a short essay talking about the story and it's development. Instead there are little blurbs about t-shirt graphics and postcards used to premote the original comic. Kevin Smith's Blurb on the back cover suffers from a very noticable typo.
Overall I have to say that this item is a very poor substitute for the originals. It just proved to me how dangerous nostalgia in the market place can be.

I remember being pestful always asking when Mage 2 would be released. You know I never really expected an answer. It was more a public statement of my frustration.

I don't care what anyone says. This Mage Hardcover is cool stuff. It's got me all cranked to pester Matt Wagner at the next comic con. I want the Hero Denied.

Oh and New Avengers was quite cool.

Really this hard cover was ill concieved. For a title that was so loved you would have thunk they could put the time into working out the simple graphic flaws; not to mention that typo on the back. Was that a cut and paste from an email?
I had a good read last night but I wanted more for $50.00 I guess. This was a shave penny job on a title that deserves better then a back story on its current line of action figures. Matt owns the title, so I can only guess that this product is his ode to Todd Mcfarlaine. I hope his market mantra works as well or better after this; when he puts out a real edition for true fans of his much beloved comic.

Gordon - well, our store does do mail order...!

"That's pure nerd-nirvana, my friend, in its full four color splendor."

OK, now I don't regret pre-ordering this issue after being unimpressed with #14. Thanks for keeping the hope alive, Mike!
