Yep. Mad did do the inner workings of cartoon characters. If I remember correctly, it was Li'l Abner, Charlie Brown, and Dagwood. There might have been a couple more. Ah, here we go. Found it! Mad #236 "A Mad Guide To The Anatomy Of The Human Body Based On The Comics" Charlie Brown, Sarge from Beetle Bailey, Steve Canyon, and some kid with no mouth and a giant bubble head.

Sorry to hear about Haney passing. Oddly, in addition to his shelved Teen Titans book, he also had a (mostly) shelved Super-Sons story in the ELSEWORLDS 80-PAGE book that was pulled after being printed. Maybe they can be published together with a sample of his other work.
