Cap Marv Jr really only showed up for the Sabbac story-line. He hasn't made any appearances in the book since.

I actually liked the Sivana story-line. Yes, the Dr was terribly out of character as shown in every prior appearance, but it was sort of fun to see a character that's largely been treated as a joke actually show some intelligence and ruthlessness.

ALTER EGO #9 had most of the rejected RT proposals for Cap, and their as bad as Mike says (for one thing, Mark Beachum was the artist attached for a long time, and one of his sketches has a note "he becomes a hero based on today's icons Bruce Springsteen, Clint Eastwood, Prince, Michael Jackson"). #16 has more, with Bob Greenberger explaining what he remembers of the New York side of things, and RT's response.

And for the record, I liked the two-part DCCP story too, which is why I was amused that RT seems to lump it in with takes on Cap that just didn't work in NEW BEGINNING (even moreso after I read NEW BEGINNING). Inspired one of my favourite comments, "Roy Thomas wouldn't recognize a good story if he wrote it".

Speaking of Cap and Supes, I see they're going to try yet ANOTHER version of the "Superman gets possessed by Eclipso and Captain Marvel has to reluctantly pound the hell out of his hero to save the world" story again this summer.

I just don't get it. My third grade students have inherited my love for the Big Red Cheese and company. I know kids can love it. Why DC doesn't put some effort into putting a series out there, a decent one, for kids, I don't know. Hell, the Marvel Family stuff would even go really well in a mangafied setting.

But no, Cap must be punished for beating Superman in the fifties or whatever.
