"You dare speak thus about Paul Bunyan, little flea?"

Man, I love that authentic lumberjack slang.

Punisher Armory: Ten issues? I had no idea...wow. I'm picturing Dorian sitting on a stool like Robert Evans, drink in one hand, reading out Frank's strangely erotic descriptions of something like that Kalashnikov AK-47.

"The machined receiver has a certain kind of glint I like to buff down after painting the entire weapon a matte back. Buffing takes hours, but can be completely worth it."

That Punisher Armory at least has (I think) a Doug Braithwaite cover. Badass!

Immortus' desk? That makes sense, I guess. More sense, anyway, than what I originally saw, which was Immortus lying in bed as Rick Jones stumbles in...

The last panel reads so differently for me now.

By the by, remember, all those characters Immortus brought from the past were actually Space Phantoms!

That was partially to explain why Hercules is not the same Hercules who later joined the Avengers...hehe.

Gotta love Busiek's desire to explain everything.

Nice pelvic thrust, Thundergod.

That's what drives you insa-a-a-a-ne.

Now let's do the time warp AGAIN, Immortus.

Was it Kurt that came up with that explanation? I thought it was either Peter Sanderson or Mark Gruenwald in the Marvel Universe handbooks in the 1980s. I think there were some Dire Wraith ringer explanations in those, too.

Immortus is really one of the wacky wizards from the Harry Potter universe playing a joke on super powered muggles.

They call that muggle-baiting over there and it'll get you a nice fine or possibly a stint in Azkaban.

Excellent question.

I know Busiek made it all fit together in Avengers Forever, but you're right, it IS possible that Stern worked in the "Space Phantom" explanation in during his mid-80s Kang storyline.

I still think it was Busiek, but I would not be surprised at ALL if it WAS Stern.
