My two offspring (8 yr old boy & 4 yr old girl) are all ready for a full day. We will start at the downtown shop, which will have the best selection, and end at a shop in the suburbs, which will have a Spidey appearance.

In addition to the freebies, they will each get $10.00 to spend on comics and I will be getting "1000 Steps to World Domination" that I have been eyeing for awhile.

And for inquiring minds, my son is an Archies fan while my girl is a Teen Titans Go fan. She wants to be Starfire when she grows up. Being orange doesn't faze her.

From Twomorrows I picked up AlterEgo #8, an all Wally Wood issue. I can never get enough of his artwork.

Hmmm. I got a good selection but missed the Donald Duck. Bummer I love the Disney comics. I liked Preposterous Voyages of Ironhide Tom but wasn't knocked out by Owly. The Marvel and DC comics were a meh for me. Still I was pleased to find any at all as I am in the UK on a trip and hadn't seen signs for it in any of the shops at all. I have to say, I love Free Comic Book Day, makes me feel like a 14 year old comic fan again.

You didn't start with "Biff! Bam! Pow!"

When I told the kiddo it was Free Comic Book Day, what do you you suppose his reaction was?

"I wonder if they'll have any Spiderman?"

Once again, the store I work at has endured a flood of obnoxious, greedy pigs. One customer in 20 actually bought anything, and I had to stop two kids from walking out the door, each with an armfull of trades. They thought everything was free, even though the free comics were in a clearly marked area far away from where the trades were. I also had to field at least three dozen calls, most of them were from indignant nerds who demanded to know why we didn't have a free Stargate action figure. (1. It's not "free toy day" and 2. it costs us more than we're willing to pay for no return) Free Comic Book Day is the bane of our existence here at our store (or at least the bane of the existence of the people that work here). It would be less of a pain if the companies gave them away for free....OH MY GOD! Less than 5 seconds ago I had to stop yet another person from walking out with a huge stack of graphic novels! There are clear signs everywhere as to where the "FREE" ones are! What is wrong with you people!?!?!?

Despite having to settle for a Newbury's location, I was able to nab all gold sponsor issues and about 7 silver level, including Scott Pilgrim, which made me happy because I've been wanting to check it out. I dragged my 16 year old cousing along who snagged some issues for he and his friends who'd gotten away from comics because of the expense and he seemed to find some stuff to interest him.

From Twomorrows I got Back Issue #8 to feed my retro X-men fix and when I got home, waiting in the mail was the latest issue of The Advocate, sporting a Superman Returns cover and the giant headline "How Gay is Superman?"

Best FCBD ever!

"-- acting as a gateway to more advanced reading and thought."

Has anyone read a stupider quote about the comics medium in the last ten years? Anyone?

Wow, so Newbury's was pretty much just letting you grab all the freebies you wanted? I knew I should have made the trip over, but my local store clearly cares so little about their comics section I almost hate to support them in any way when I don't have to. If I need a CD or DVD they're my first choice, but for comics... for get it.

Oh yeah, and please stop jamming up Twomorrow's server so I can get on there and get my free mag. I gess folks just love freebies.

"Wow, so Newbury's was pretty much just letting you grab all the freebies you wanted?"

The door poster said 'ask about your free comic' singular but the display sign asked us to limit ourselves to 1 copy of each title. Even though our newspaper ran a front page story on the entertainment section about it we seemed to be the only ones there actually taking anything. I was going to buy some stuff in support but Newbury's idea of comics is one rack of X-titles, another of Bat titles, and then reprints of goth favorites like Lenore and JTHM for the 'misunderstood teens with money to blow' crowd they cater to.

*got neither OWLY nor SCOTT PILGRIM*

*is sad*

These are tough times we live in.
