Wikipedia's off on Winslow's first published appearance. Phil did a series of comics for the 1982 Chicago Worldcon, starting as promotional material when they were bidding for the con, and in all the con's Progress Reports and Program Book, starring Roger Parks, a detective specializing in unusual cases, whose sidekick was a much more verbal Winslow.

and look in the Photos section, there's an album with all of the Parks/Winslow strips.

I've never really read much Buck other than the original Starblaze graphic novels, which were a heck of a lot of fun. I do think I picked up some comics a while back, but they didn't quite have the same "spark" to me as the earlier work...

Mike, you are one hoopy frood. My brother and I have long worshipped at the altar of the Winslow; I didn't know there were more of us out there.

I don't think any moment in comics has made me laugh quite as hard as the two-page spread of chaos breaking loose in the Gallimaufry and the Winslow responding with a hearty "Gosh!".

But to be honest, I'm waiting for some Law Machines to pop up in "Girl Genius"...
