I don't care about The Spirit. He's just never interested me and this trailer looks... I know I can't say it's a Sin City rip-off because Frank Miller is doing it but still...

Sadly, it's exactly what I expected of Frank Miller, but I was kinda hoping for, well... y'know... the SPIRIT.
NOT a Frank Miller character (even though I don't hate Frank Miller characters in moderation).

I'll pass on that one.

I remember those 'talking tape' things.
A red strip of plastic that was given away in cereal packets. (early 70s?) Once you'd finished the packet of cereal, you made a hole in the packet, and pulled the strip through. The only one I remember was one of a series of famous speeches.
It was Winston Churchill saying "Some chicken, some neck." Looks like he's got one of those same giveaways, it's a red strip of plastic, just like the ones I remember, anyway...

"Talking Tape" was used in one of the last efforts of the late 80s/early 90s TMNT toy line to maintain interest. They released the four turtles with massive sewer cover shaped blocks on their backs, and you'd run the tape through to hear got awful squeaked "cowabungas" and "I love being a turtle."

And, I agree, the Spirit's blue suit is a little more important than his red tie. I'll wait til I see it to judge any further, but I gotta say... I ain't feelin' it.

Hallmark briefly used those talking tapes in greeting cards, both for words and for music if I recall correctly.

I also remember coming across a mention in New Scientist about a patent on applying the same principle to grooved concrete to create mysterious voices telling you the speed limit or advising you to drive safely as you drive over them. I haven't heard any more about it so I don't think the technology was ever applied (thank God).

There's so much wrong with the Spirit trailer that I'm not sure where to start. But I guess the whole black, white, and red thing is as good a place as any. That made sense with Sin City, because the source material actually looked like that, but The Spirit's always been in color. Lots of colors, not just three. Also, the voiceover narration is very Frank Miller, but not at all Will Eisner, and the logo looks terrible. It's certainly not as good as the classic Spirit logo. It's not looking too good so far.
