I have to ask, just because I am very curious:

How is it that the Swamp Thing mythos appeals to you so much?

Probably, Chad, because the Mikester agrees Swampy is the coolest
(and most unappreciated) comic book mythos ever?

Arcane explained why Abby stopped using the full powers in SOTST #19.
She first used telepathy with Alec in #52-53. Also in last year's #25, we find out plenty of why the rare uses of Abby's powers make the Alec/Abby relationship so enduring.
She kicked some monster butt in that issue, too. Powers or no powers.
Abby didn't lose her powers, they just changed a lot as she kept getting older.

Matt Cable's powers, on the other hand, were explained in Sandman: The Doll's House. Cable was a mix of Wesley Dodd's bad dreams and Rose Walker's reality warping.

Did anyone notice? Rich Handley finally updated his page!

About Redondo, why aren't his Swamp Thing issues reprinted after 30 years?
They stopped with Wrightson, ignoring the rest of the original 70's series.
(Notice the quality of the art?)

There's no good reason for that!

Does DC have something against paying royalties to Philipino premiere artist estates or something? Redondo paved the way for Alcala (who inked much of the series in the 80's)
a later Philipino artist, if memory serves.

Yeah, there's a reference in SAGA #19 to powers inherent in the Arcane bloodline. Abby also shows a psychic connection to her father in #59, so I guess you can chalk up any powers she shows to "it's an Arcane thing".

It's probably a royalties issue -- that's why the Showcase omnibuses have a cut-off point in the mid-1970s as well. Somebody can probably explain it better and with a link, but basically DC switched the type of contract they had freelancers sign, and it would cost too much for them to pay the artists to reprint stuff from that era.

Rich Handley finally updated his site? What took him so long? Cool -- I'll have to check it out!

Mike, I've been meaning to tell you for a while how much I enjoy your site. I, too, care about the Swampy minutae you point out, so you're not alone. (You may have noticed that I posted a banner to your site on Roots. I think everyone should be reading it!
