Um... it's Jon, not Joe... other than that, thanks for commenting back on my comment, and also thanks for the linkage!

EDIT: Whoops, Sorry, Jon...it was pretty late when I was writing this! Fixed now. --M.

Comments on a blog post devoted to comments, how meta!

Two Face is Batman's greatest villain. Tommy Lee Jones is one of the finest actors alive. TLJ as TF should have been the greatest thing ever, but instead he was a gibbering idiot/sidekick.

All the Bat Nipples and neon-lined trash cans in the world can't top that for epic failure.

But, I may not be the best judge. I thought the first Batman film was really weak. ("Bats?" "They're great survivors." Talk about totally missing the point of a character.)

I thought Batman Returns was incredibly stupid. (Penguins with missiles! The city is doomed!)

At least B&R embraced the campiness instead of trying to pretend that they weren't campy at their core. Burton's disdain for the material shows all through his Batman movies.

And Jack (I'm wearing the make-up. You mean you want me to act too?") Nicholson sucked as the Joker.

Yeah, I said it!

yep, i saw the movie opening night in a packed theater, and by the end everyone just sort of looked at who they were with, shaked their heads, and walked out.

it was a painful experience.

I have a soft spot for Batman Forever, since I saw it in the theatre with a great girlfriend, and afterwards we went to a local indy theatre for a midnight showing of the old sixties Batman movie. Complete with "actors" in homemade Batman and Robin costumes running around and MST3K'ing dialog.

(Their best bit: when Adam West first turns to Burt Ward and says, "Robin, do you know what this means?" and they both scream out "OVERTIME!")

I'm with The Mutt. I didn't like the Burton Batman movies (I'm still chapped that Alfred let Vickie Vale into the bat cave, but maybe I took it too personally) and by the time Batman & Robin dropped, I was done. The trailer for that one worked against it. I assume a trailer gives you some of the best bits to lure you into the theater. If those were the best bits ("It's the hockey team from hell!" -- UGH!) then I saw no reason to go.

Of course, Mike, I appreciate your tremendous sacrifice in bringing this to us. I've devoured every word.

"And she probably made more money from Batman than Bill Finger ever did."

Oh, snap, Mike Sterling!

Oh, HydrogenGuy, it's like I don't even know you anymore.

Hey, I was young, and in a weird and vulnerable place then! [DRAMATIC SOBS]

I like to think of Eragon as The Best Jeremy Irons CGI Dragon Movie of All Time. But since the other one is Dungeons & Dragons, that's pretty feint praise.

A) By posting on comments and allowing further comments on that post, you've proven that Batman and Robin is a perpetual blogging engine.

B) I think we can all agree that the third film, which introduced Robin, should have had the Batman and Robin title, while the fourth should have been Batman 4ever.

C) The theater I saw it in was packed, and remained so. The movie didn't make over 100 million (1997) dollars from elves, you know.

Clarification on C)
That doesn't make it any better of a film, or anything. That just means it wasn't as universally unpopular as people like to retro-remember.

I saw all of the Batman movies opening night up to and including the new ones.

When we were in the theater watching Batman and Robin,my friends and I alternated between cringing in embarrassment and guffawing at the ineptitude up there on the screen. The funniest part of the movie came when Alfred was sick and somebody in the row behind goes "I HOPE HE DIES SO WE CAN GO HOME." Good times.

The Burton movies really haven't held up very well, have they?

Better than the two that followed, but still.... One thing that really leaps out at me is how all four films feel *really* set-bound.

Thanks for fixing that, Mike!

Thanks for fixing that, Mike!

No problem, Jeff!

if you have Uma Thurman, playing Poison Ivy, and you somehow manage to make it not sexy, you've done something horribly wrong.

That's how I feel about Catwoman. It seems like it would be hard to screw up Halle Berry in a leather catsuit.

Hey! I liked Eragon!

Bah. I can't give the Schumacher films a fair shake after seeing the ripped-off laundry scene that came from a kung-fu flick called Dreadnaught:
