I had forgotten about Vegetable Soup...and more importantly about Outerscope I/II, quite possibly the creepiest puppet thing EVAR.

And I remember being traumatized by the creature called Hategut. Now my nightmares have a name. Thanks, Mike.

I'm with you, WizarDru, this show was pure nightmare fuel for me as a kid.

I can't recall when it aired around here (Boston), but it had basically no other cartoon competition, probably Sunday morning, or Saturday's before the network cartoon blocks started up. I had a compulsion to watch virtually any cartoon show, no matter how bad. This show wasn't actively bad, but damn it creeped me out.

The cartoon style was creepy, those puppet-y things were creepy... this post counts as a Halloween post in my book.

I'd love to see some Vegetable Soup on the shiny DVD. Outerscope and Nigel the Snake were my faves.

Man, drugs were so much better in the 70s.

I actually liked this Watchman trailer better than the first one. It still uses the same music (from the soundtrack of "Batman & Robin", ironically), and the song fits the movie perfectly, IMO. The extra shots give a teensy bit more of a glimpse than we had before and serves better as a teaser trailer.

What I'm more impressed with is the new "Watchmen" poster that's out. It has a different image and an actual tagline. This was my problem with the original poster/trailer - everyone hailed it as a masterpiece before anyone saw much of anything. What everyone needs to remember is the reason "The Dark Knight" became successful was not only repeat business, but a familiarity with the characters. Does the average Joe know who the "Watchmen" are? It's been years since I read it myself.

The marketing needs to change and stop focusing on the fanboys/fangirls and try to get your average movie-goer interested, otherwise it'll end up being a "cult film" and no studio will want to take a risk like this again.

man I forgot how much I couldn't stand this animator's style. And what was that part of the program with Woody I think, that did recipes or something? The character was voiced by Bette Midler IIRC, and her voice was shrill and loud and matched this cartoon style perfectly.

'70s children's television was just one big contact high.

and I say that as someone who currently watches "Yo Gabba Gabba" with my kid.

The seventies were terrible.

As a reader of your site I feel obligated to point out any and all appreciations of Swamp Thing. I believe it's the 9th picture down.

Man, how many epileptic seizures were caused by that intro?

One minute PLUS, just for the opening credits? God, that's lazy TV making.

I can only imagine a Saturday morning in 1971: Some dude who looks like a young Chester Williams sits at the kitchen table packing his pipe while, in the adjoining living room, a topless woman he calls "mama" lolls semi-conscious on a nearby hideous couch and three dirty kids wrestle around on the floor in front of the TV. And the guy looks over at the kids and says: "Hey, you guys, be quiet! Dad's show is comin' on!"

OMG...if that Vegetable Soup song doesn't leave my head soon i may be required to dress in my dad's bell bottoms and pull some big ass medalion out of the bottom drawer THEN go on a killing spree...how come the 70s are always better my head than they ever were in reality?
