This is more wonderful than I could ever hope for. Thank you!

Did the old "Hex" comic ever explain how Jonah got to the future in the first place? Or was the only answer given for that in the DC/Marvel "Unlimited Access" mini, where Access accidentally shunted Hex through time, not knowing where he'd fall out?

If I recall correctly, there was a weird "collector" picking up warriors from the past to put on his collection. A bunch of Vietnam War guys were brought in with Hex!

Dammit, we need more Jonah Hex Showcases!

Best,
Hunter (Pedro Bouça)

The body of Jonah on display story came from a news item about that time, where it was discovered that what had been thought to be an old manequin on display actually was an old body.

Creepy beyond belief...and yet you have to admit that it is one HECK of a way to end a story.

You gotta love a comic and a character where our hero's discovery of his own corpse is a moment of wry hope.

Michael Fleisher = The Awesome.

Hex 2 was the first DC comic I bought, after having previously decided DC was "lame".

As a nice aside, in the time travel episode of JLU, Our Heroes encounter Jonah Hex (voiced by Adam Baldwin, the Man They Call Jayne, who's on my short list of People To Play Hex in a Live-Action Movie).

He immediately pegs them as being from the future, making a comment that was an oblique reference to his own temporal jaunt.

Heh. I remember whoever edited Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo jokingly (?) explaining away the Hex series as something Jonah hallucinated while being pickled (not being intoxicated, mind you, but actually in a barrel, getting pickled...just one of the many indignities he was put through in the Lansdale/Truman incarnation of the book, which strangely enough appears to have been all but forgotten, despite its being thoroughly awesome). DC needs to get back to reprinting this stuff, and I wouldn't mind a (mercifully recolored!) Hex trade, either.

Also after Hex and his fellow Justice Brigaders met some of them in ST, TM, JLofA, ZH, CoIE, S/B, and BG. Hex knew plenty about time travel before his subsequent JLU appearances and his attempt to retire a few years later when he finally got old in the classic Batman Animated series episode with Ra's Al Ghul. By 1904, he was just too set in his ways to even care.

And yes, he came back, down his son's bloodline, as a blazing hot blonde chick named Hex! LOL!

One more thing, Hex got back to his own time in a Justice League Europe Annual---of all things---I honestly believe...

Thanks for the wikipedia link, StevenR. There is a song by Brian Dewan about the same events and I wondered if Hex and Dewan were referencing the same legend.

To clear up a few things:
* Chris, I have no problem with you posting this. At one issue a week (I'm on number #59) I have about a year or more before I cover this issue.

* It had never been revealed how Jonah gets back. The JLE story had Metamorpho being tossed into the future to encounter Hex. The best explanation is a wonderful story by Susan Hillwig, called The Long Road Home

* Jonah was kidnapped into the future by Reinhold Borsten, a madman who had stolen plans for a time travel machine. He was 'collecting' warriors from various time periods, holding massive battles and allowing rich people pay-per-view privileges. Of course, Jonah escapes and all hell breaks loose.

Want more awesome? In a few more weeks I cover Jonah battleing sharks (sadly, not shark-chuks, but sharks nonetheless.)

Almost forgot. I cover the Last Bounty Hunter here

Don't forget, Dwayne, a Hex-like confederate soldier (possibly Hex) appeared pre-scarred in the 12th issue of the first Swamp Thing series. (I'm surprised Sterling didn't jump on this!)

Who's "Chris"?

"Who's Chris?"
Uhhhh, Chris is the guy who owns the website that I was reading before I read this one.
>hides face and slinks away

Oh Dwayne!

THE ISB MEDIA EMPIRE EXPANDS UNABATED.

Why, Dwayne, why?

It's uh, because, Chris is the first comics blog that I ever read, and uh (Chris, don't TWIST that part of my body, it doesn't MOVE that way!) I have to admit that it is the best (even though Chris doesn't let me submit wicked-awesome banners like you do, Mike, and he lacks a link to my site) OOOOOWWWWWWWW, CHRIS!!!! LET GO OF THAT!!! OOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!
