Now, now. Not vampires. Albino monks in cool shades. Let's be clear here.

I gave the second Moomin collection to my 8 year old niece after she loved the first one I gave her for her birthday last month. That was all for this Christmas.

I got five comics-related gifts this year, only one of which I had asked for:

1. The Original Art Of Basil Wolverton, the amazing catalog to a gallery exhibition of Glen Bray's massive collection of Wolvertoniana; this was the one I asked for as I'd attended the opening and was completely bowled over. (celebrities sighted at Wolverton opening: Coop, Gilbert Hernandez, and Mark Mothersbaugh)

2. Stephen Colbert's Tek Jansen #1, a pleasant surprise which I haven't read yet

3. Clean Cartoonist's Dirty Drawings, edited by the dirty Craig Yoe

and finally, #'s 3 & 4, two Marvel Graphic Novels, specifically #7 Killraven and #14 Swords of the Swashbucklers. They were found at a library book sale for a dollar each by my wife, and definitely fall under the category of "hey, he likes comics, this is comics, he'll love it!". I'm looking forward to reading them over New Year's, preferably with alcohol.

The only comic book related niftiness I got was a hardcover thingie called "The Marvel Vault". Billed as a Museum In A Box, it has a history of Marvel Comics from the very beginning, and after every decade it has reproductions of niftiness - such as early Namor sketches, and a Howard the Duck campaign button from the 70's.

Hey, I still have my Howard '76 campaign button!

The only comics-related thing I got for Christmas was a copy of the 1966 Batman film on DVD, from my son.

I gave my 8-yr-old grandson a copy of Essential Spider-Man Vol.1, and a Calvin and Hobbes collection.

not comics but comics related-I got Smallville season 5&6. Marvel's soap opera style meets Superman.
I love watching Smallville for the little nods to the legend, so that when my wife asks what I'm laughing or smiling at, I can launch into a detailed explanation and watch her eyes start to glaze as she realizes she shouldn't have asked.

I got (1) Matt Kindt's 'Super Spy,' (2) the Fletcher Hanks collection 'I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets,' (3) the Absolute Edition of Darwyn Cooke's 'New Frontier,' and (4) the original art of 'What If? Avengers Disassembled' p. 13. Made me pretty happy.

I bought Watchmen for a friend of mine who works at a comic book store. She had, inexplicably, never read it. Then a co-worker chimed in that he had never read it, so I told them it was the shop copy, and they all had a responsibility to read the damned thing.

I gave my friend Maria, whose boyfriend has been slowly getting her to read graphic novels, a copy of The Sandman: Endless Nights. She's never read any Gaiman, but apparently she's really enjoying it.

It's an okay movie on its own, but I never cared for The Omega Man as an adaptation. The mood was all wrong. I think the The Last Man on Earth really got it, though.

I'm going to be the uncle that gives comics related gifts until those kids are in their twenties. I gave my nephews Batman and Superman Super Friends, and Hot Wheels Batmobiles. My youngest son got his first Nightcrawler, the little Superhero Squad one.

My oldest got me a dollar store DVD, "Star Warrior," allegedly two hours of giant robot cartoons. It's got a knockoff of Getter Robo on the cover, so I confess I'm looking forward to it...

I got my brother The Ultimate Spiderman TPB 9&10. Man, those are the gifts that just keep on giving.

Got my mom the Heroes hardcover. She loves the show, so I figured it was worth a shot.

My girlfriend did an awesome job with comics-related gifts this year. She got me a huge collection of Winsor McCay's "Little Nemo in Slumberland," along with season 2 of the Rocky and Bullwinkle show (not strictly comics, I know) and a George Herriman "Krazy Kat" print.
The print is very cool and especially needed for the walls of my place.
Also sorta-not-really comics related, my brother got me the DVD "Samurai Assassin" movie that's based on "Lone Wolf & Cub."

I gave my wife "Shortcomings" by Tomine (a gift for me, too, as I only read the story serialized and would like to read it all together). She gave me the "Best American Comics 2007" book, but I think I might exchange it for the "ACME Novelty Library Datebook v2" (although I have seen very little commentary on the new volume yet), which she'd been eying, too, but wasn't sure if I didn't already have it.

My parents got me the last two "Complete Peanuts" books in the slipcase, which I think I prefer. I'd rather wait a year between installments for the packaging.

Gave my nephew the DC Showcase collections of Legion of Superheroes and Brave and the Bold.

Gave my friend Jason, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen TPB, since he loves that era's fiction, and little by little I'm turning him into a comics fan.

I gave another person one of the Owly books, because they really liked Peanut Butter and Jeremy, so it seemed like a good fit (and it was, as she started reading it immediately upon opening the gift).

No comics for me, but that's okay. I'm buying volume 2 of the Popeye reprint soon.

I got a set of Milk & Cheese beer mugs. They are very rad. "Beer is my copilot!" "Beer is my anti-drug!"

I gave my nephew a Spiderman alarm clock witch was highly appreciated, and his mom got me The Boys TPB and the Cairo graphic novel.
I know I shouldn't enjoy The Boys, me being all grown up and all, but gee, it's such a fun read. Hyper-violence, crisp art and fun stories make me happy, so I'll have to call my store and have them add the monthly to my subscription.
Haven't finished Cairo yet, but it's a good read so far.

In box:
My wife got me Maggie the Mechanic and The Complete Peanuts 1965-66; my mother-in-law got me the King-Cat Classix hardcover and the Chronological Donald Vol. 3 DVD. On Boxing Day, I bought myself Popeye Vol. 2 (You're going to love it, Rob.)

Out box:
I got my 4-year-old son (and aspiring acrobat) the Robin Archives, as he had specifically requested a book of "just Robin, no Batman!" And I gave my best friend from college the X-Men: First Class trade. Everyone needs some Jeff Parker comics on their shelf.

Nothing comic-related given or received for Xmas. My wife is hesitant to get me comic stuff because she's worried she'll get me something I already have (yes, it's happened). But my birthday is on Sunday and I usually buy something spendy from the comic shop to celebrate.

I did get a small C-3PO nesting doll which comes from the line of Star Wars nesting dolls with the unfortunate name "Star Wars Chubby." My brother and I spent an hour on the phone saying things like, "Star Wars Chubby? I had that when I was 9!" and "Enjoy your Star Wars Chubby. And the C-3PO nesting doll!"

Oh, how we laughed.

To my best friend, I gave James Strum's 'America: God, Gold, and Golems.' He's the only person I know that I can be sure would enjoy such esoteric Americana. To his infant son, I gave an Owly book, so he can grow up to be a nerd just like me. To my nephew I gave the Mouse Guard hardcover because he likes swords.

I got the cutest li'l Galactus of all--which, it turns out, had already been bought for me weeks before you called my attention to it! That's pretty much it for comics-related stuff.

I got my wife the latest Finder collections - Five Crazy Women and the digest sized collection of Sin-Eater.

I bought my husband a copy of Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil. Myself, I got a Fone Bone plushie.

I got a Polar Lights Batboat model kit, the 1989 Batman movie on DVD, and a Marvel Heroes T-shirt.

Non comic-related: An accordion (!) and a deep fryer (!!).

No comic stuff for me this year. However, I did give my friend's daughter a copy of the Mutts Sunday strips book.

Whoops, I forgot to mention a vaguely comic related item...the John Kovalic-designed My Little Cthulhu! Awesome! That's going onto the display shelf right next to my wife's brand new row of freaks (with their very own midway) that I got for her.

I got my step father a Spider Man Mr. Potatohead (he's a fan of Spidey and I lept walking past these things at work and loved them, but felt silly buying for myself) and my mom and him got me an assortment from the Fantagraphics catalog- I SHALL DESTROY ALL CIVILIZED PLANETS, THE FUN NEVER STOPS by Drew Freidman, ACME NOVELTY LIBRARY #17 and LOVE & ROCKETS #20. My mom also got me BEST AMERICAN COMICS 2007 and CROMARTIE HIGH Vol. 2 and 12m (the 2 I don't have.) Pretty good comics haul.

It was a Jack Kirby Christmas for me: my wife got me the collected Devil Dinosaur and Fourth World Omnibus V1, as well as the latest boxed Peanuts set. Bought myself the comics-related Venture Brothers Season Two DVD with yulebucks from my folks.

Non-comics related: the Robyn Hitchcock I Wanna Go Backwards boxset, though I hafta say some of his drawings look influenced by underground comix.

I got: Doctor 13, Silverfish, Maggie the Mechanic, and Acme Novelty Library #18. Also, Michael Chabon's book Gentlemen of the Road, with illustrations by Gary Gianni.

Got some pretty decent comics stuff from my mom: The Sweeter Side of R. Crumb hardcover, the oversized Cartoonists on Music volume from Fantagraphics, and the 365 Days of Golden Age Heroes.

My wife's mom sent us some total WTF comics stuff: two How to Draw Manga books and the Art of Full Metal Alchemist, because "we like japanese stuff". We took them to Barnes & Noble where they gave us store credit for them and I bought the Doctor 13 trade and the latest Brubaker Daredevil trade. She did send me one thing that was good, the Marvel Encyclopedia from DK Books. I just hope she didn't pay full price for it.

My present to myself was the first Moomin volume, and I sent Spiral-Bound and Ultimate Spider-Man Ultimate Collection vol. 1 as gifts for my niece and nephew, respectively.

Got the Jeff Smith "Shazam!" hardcover and "Reading Comics," gave my fiancee's sister's fiance (not really a brother-in-law, I guess, but there's no term for it, either) the monster complete "Bone" paperback.

It's been a lean holiday (we're holding off any serious giftgiving until we sell our old home - which should be sometime in 2010), but I did get manage to the second volume Popeye with a gift card.

I bought some manga (Fruits Basket and Hikaru no Go) for our office's collection for a local charity's children's holiday party. I work for a very stodgy corporation and I reckon I might be the only person there who knows that the kids these days like that "Japanime" along with their hula hoops.
