I thought she seemed really nervous too. It was making me uncomfortable everytime she tried to make a joke and slapped her leg - like an old man! And then what was that about with her giving Dave a hard time because his almost 2 yo son isn't potty trained yet? I was glad she didn't perform because the stuff I've heard from her new album is hot but you know she can't pull that off live. Melissa Etheridge did a good performance and was nice to Dave about the kid still being in diapers. Go Melissa!

I bet the reason she didn't sing is because Ms. Ethridge, a real singer with talent and depth, was scheduled to perform. Madonna, like J-lo, never perform in the presence of real singers. Not unless they can have their music track, about 20 backup singers, 45 dancers a mulitude of lighting effects, etc.
The only time they seem to sing alone is when there are no real singers present. Madonna didn't perform because she couldn't measure up; so she rides a horse instead.

I remember an appearance on Letterman about 10 years ago. She was awful then too. She kept trying to be shocking, but it fell flat and Dave got the best of her. She said, "Do you pee in the shower?" and waited for a reaction as though that were clever, but it came across like a 5 year old's pee-pee, poo-poo joke. She REFUSED to leave and it was pathetic. Dave beat her but good.
