Coco, you must be one of the most stonehearted, coldest freaks on this planet. Katrina was a big disaster, but it pales in comparison to the South Asian earthquake and last year's tsunami. If you don't want to give money to poor people other than Americans, fine, that's your decision.
However, there are desperate, needy people all over the world and many Americans recognize that. Being poor in America is NOTHING like being poor in Asia or Africa. Good for you that you won the birth lottery and were born in the US. 6 billion other people weren't as lucky as you.
When Katrina struck, lots of nations, including Pakistan sent aid. However, giving aid to America is like giving money to pay for Bill Gates' doctor's bill. We are so blessed to be living in the most prosperous country in the world. We live in a country that is capable of giving charity, not being on the receiving end, begging with our hands outstretched. Our country is one where our poor CAN get assitance from the government, where many of our poor are probably the fattest people on the planet (since obviously there is no dearth of food).

No motel and hotel rooms to stay in while the government cleans up . I live in Dallas and volunteered with the refugees... You would not believe the generosity of our residents regardless of their ethnic background. Our churches, and city government placed all the homeless in an apartment or a hotel room where they will stay till after the first of the year. We live in the greatest country in the world where we all have the opportunity to make something of ourselves. Poverty has a different definition to us then it does to the rest of the world. What we consider poverty here is considered middle class or well to do in most of the world....I commend Brangelina for their sense of compassion and understanding of global humanity. If one reads and educates themselves on the issues from all points of view one realizes that it is not about not enough money being spent to help the poor in this country but how it is being spent. Spend it on education and health care for all and cut welfare and the stagnant overpaid civil service which includes those in the Capitol. For those who are clueless about the situation in Pakistan... Get on the Reuters website and look through their catalogs of pictures and videos... Wanna - what it does having them there is it keeps media attention on what is going on. There is no possible way that could be a bad thing. And, you cannot compare Katrina to the earthquake. Katrina is a tragedy that was made far worse by our inept government. The Pakistan quake is on par with the tsunami - a disaster of epic proportions that will get a hell of a lot worse if these people don't get shelter soon. Who gives a fuck if Brangelina has any other motive. Bottom line, it keeps the story in the news so that other countries (not just us) pony up and provide the help needed.
i've done alot of international work. my father made the comment "there are plenty of americans that need help." he wasn't very supportive of me while i was living in china during my sophomore year of college. he couldn't understand why i wanted to help people in other countries. well, i'm 26 and i'm back in asia. everyone has their calling, so GO OUT AND DO IT..

Just for the record, Brad Pitt did not win an Oscar for Troy. In fact, he was nominated for a Razzie for Troy. Razzies are the anti-Oscar Oscars where the worst performances are given awards.
Animus, I'd say he deserves a Razzie for all his performances other than "Kalifornia", "Fight Club", and "Thelma & Louise". He is not much of an actor.
Angelina, while I'm just as tired of her as I'm of him, has at least shown acting talent. He is famous for being (allegedly) hot and at his age, that isn't gonna take him too far. Angelina was a good publicity stunt for him, people who thought she needed the publicity are sorely mistaken.
I think the point is that Angelina is going out and doing something! She could easily get just as much publicity for going out to clubs and stumbling out drunk a la Paris Hilton. But instead she's donating her time to worthwhile causes. At least some publicity is going out to countries that need it and people are getting help. She is shining her light on issues that I would've never heard about if it weren't for her. I don't know anything about the world. I'm from Arkansas and I sit around on my ass reading about celebrites. She's a much better person than I am.
