Just because they were good together in a movie doesn't mean that they're friends in real life. Heath strikes me as a total asshole, so I'm not really surprised he'd say that.

I know it's a respect thing and if I was in the situation, I would be singing my co-star's praises even if I totally hated him...but it's sort of unfair for us to expect celebs to tell the truth and then get mad when they do. Maybe he really does think that G. Clooney did a better job in his movie than Jake did in BBM. hahaha...BM.
I think BBM is overated...Heath's right, George should get it, he's a far better actor and deserves it for his body of work alone. All Jake ever did before BBM was Kirsten Dunst and that's not saying much.
On the flip side, I don't think Heath should win either, Phillip Seymour Hoffman's performance in Capote blows both Heath and Jake away.

Heath is entitled to his opinion but NOT when he is a principal in the same movie. As an actor, you ALWAYS support the others in your film publicly, no matter what you think of them behind the scenes. The reason they do that is to protect and continue to promote the movie and their future profits (DVD sales, more ticket sales, etc). A more appropriate response from a professional would have been, "Outside of Jake G's performance in BBM, I think George Clooney should get it for Syriana." That's how the pros handle situations like that. Trust me. I know. I have relatives in the business and this is widely known in the business. I'm sure the studio wasn't too thrilled with his answer either. And before some of you start saying he's entitled to his opinions, you're right but in Hollywood, your real opinions are given OFF the record, not ON. With that said, I wish them both the best.
