At the schools I teach at (I'm a sub), we make the kids turn their shirts inside out if they have derogatory words on it. That would MOST DEF qualify as a derogatory word. I am a black woman born in the 1950's. I had to sit in a segregated balcony at the movie theatre. My sister and I went to a public swimming pool as children and were turned away by the "white children only" sign on the gate. Thankfully those days are gone. Mandela told the bodyguard that he thought everyone in the USA used that word and called each other that and that it was cool.
